Competitors Race Management Scheme
Each yacht competing in a Spring, Summer, Annual or Twilight Series is required, on a minimum of one occasion per annum, to supply one crew to assist the MHYC Race Management Team. A roster will be produced by the Sailing Manager and issued to all competing yachts.
This is intended to provide crew who are regular participants in Pointscore series an opportunity to learn and experience first hand what happens behind the scenes to run a day’s racing. They can expect to be fully utilised as a part of the race management team including course setting, mark laying and retrieval, and starting conducting and finishing the race. Depending on their skills or qualifications they may get the opportunity to drive mark laying boats and tenders.
A yacht that fails to provide a crew capable of performing the tasks expected or failure of the crew to arrive in time or adequately prepared is a breach of NOR 27 and shall result in the yacht being issued a 50% scoring penalty. This amends RRS 63.1.
A yacht that is unable to compete in a scheduled Pointscore Race due to a crew assisting with Race Management duties under the Race Management Scheme NOR 27 shall be entitled to apply to the Sailing Committee for redress. Such application for redress shall be lodged within requirements of NOR 24 and supported by the yacht’s Divisional Representative and, if awarded shall be average points for the whole series in which she is an entrant.

"The worst days sailing is still better than the best day at work"!
The only Series on Sydney Harbour that races almost every week of the year! Be on deck at MHYC every Wednesday for a great afternoon of networking and racing (non spinnaker) on Sydney Harbour. Racing commences at 1330hrs (during daylight saving and 1300hrs (outside of daylight saving). Back at the club gather your crew and friends for a BBQ, trivia quiz and raffles, on the deck of the Harbourview Room. Enter for the entire year, each series (4) or casually each week. Looking for Crew? Or wanting to Crew?
For any skippers who are looking for new crew or just need that extra crew member, there are several options available to ensure your competitiveness in the Wednesday Series. The Sailing Office is always available to help with your crew requests and has an extensive database of persons who have indicated their interest in crewing opportunities.
The most effective and popular method is picking up crew from the Breezeway on the Saturday mornings prior to the race. Crew can leave their details on the Crew Board vice versa with boats requiring crew. Please don't hesitate to contact the Sailing Office with your crew request on 02 9969 1244 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Crewing Information
Come sailing on the beautiful waters of Sydney at Middle Harbour Yacht Club located at the Spit, Mosman. With a large and varied program of racing, there is something for everyone from the social to competitive sailors. Our skippers are always looking for crew whether they are experienced or learning and developing their skills.
The Crew Whiteboard - For "on the day" Crewing Opportunities
MHYC maintains a whiteboard for casual crew on race days, which was located in the Breezeway, outside the Sandbar & Cafe. This list of crew is available for Members and non Members who are wishing to sail. Skippers are also able to list their boat name when requiring crew on a race day. Check with the Sailing Office prior to race day to confirm start times and the best time to be available at the Club.
Note: During our renovations, the MHYC Crew Board will operate online - MHYC Crew Board

Crew Meet & Greet Evening
The MHYC hosts Crew Meet & Greet evenings, designed to introduce potential crew and yacht owners to each other in a casual, social environment. Yacht owners are encouraged to bring paper slips with information about their boat, the racing they do and the crew they are looking for.

Learning to Sail
If you are interested in learning to sail, contact the MHYC tenant, Flying Fish Sail Academy and sign up to one of their courses.
Sailing Attire
It is important to dress correctly for any sport and sailing is no exception, with safety being your first consideration. Correct attire will prevent you from exposure to the sun or the effects of the cold and injuries.
For your first few lessons/outings, remember to dress warmly in layers that you can take off if needed (it is always better to be overly prepared).
For example:
* Shorts, t-shirts, thermals, woollen jumpers
* Hats, headwear, Always wear SUNSCREEN
* Always wear enclosed non-marking shoes (runners), sailing boots or similar
Please note: The sport of sailing can be a high risk activity. There is a significant element of risk in any activity associated with the outdoors and that persons participating as crew on a yacht or boat may be exposed to physical, mental and emotional hazards, adverse weather conditions and/or other unanticipated an unforeseen risks and dangers, and participate at their own risk.
Feature Events Series
MHYC holds special Feature Events during the Spring and Summer months. They are the perfect way to take that step into competitive but social racing, fine tune your sailing skills and meet other Club Members. Racing is in various formats, with a variety of entertaining and challenging courses. Events are held through out the year, and provide a great social atmosphere for which the MHYC beach is famous.
