Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's E-Newsletter.  
The Giant Steps Regatta was held last Friday, being the first charity regatta of the season, with the next one this Friday, a big one - Financial & Media Markets Charity Regatta (ASX), and the SAP Ecosystem Regatta for Redkite the following Friday 2nd November.  Many thanks to all our Members who have donated their boats and time to these wonderful causes.

Adopt A Plank - take 'planking' to a new level!

Plans are on the way to update the verandas outside the Harbourview Room and Cala Luna. To assist with the funds to cover the costs of the new decking, MHYC has introduced a new concept for Members to "Adopt A Plank" for a cost of $100 per plank. Your plank will then have a name of your choosing `burnt into it’ - it could be your name, your family's name or children's or grandchildren - a great opportunity for every Member to not only help the Club but also to be part of the Club’s ongoing legacy.

Online entries are now open for the 35th Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship to be held on the weekend of 24th and 25th November, 2012. The NoR for the SSORC is also available online.

Beach BBQ & Harbourview Bar & Bistro Open for Twilights

The delicious menu offerings for the Twilight Series will again consist of either casual meals from the BBQ ranging in price from $7 to $12, from Spicy chicken Nachos, Lamb Curry with rice and vegetables or Mexican salad, to a Twilight bistro menu in the Harbourview Bar & Bistro.  Bookings are essential for the Bistro. Please call 9969 1244 to book a table.

Special Twilight Membership for New Members

MHYC will be offering a special Twilight Membership for new members wishing to join the Club for the Twilight season.  The cost will be $274.00 (inc YA fee) and expires 31st August 2013.  Conditions apply. Get your crew ready for the season.

Wild Oats Thursday Twilight Race 2 Report

There was another great turn out last Thursday for the 2nd Thursday Middle Harbour Yacht Club twilight race 2. Over 40 boats and 200 crew raced in ideal sailing conditions. It was Course 6 in a 12 knot Easterly breeze gusting to 16 knots in a small swell.

Harbour Trek Cup Race 

The MHYC Harbour Trek Cup will be held this Saturday 27th October, 2012. Clubhouse start at 1230hrs. Handicap count up.  Enjoy a day out on Sydney Harbour with alternate courses.  Click here to enter. There will be no Pointscore races this weekend.

Term 4 Junior Sailing

Tackers and the Learn to Sail programs for Term 4 commenced last Sunday with over 85 children participating plus 27 children in the squads program.  MHYC also has Manly Village Public School sailing at the Club on Friday afternoons, as part of their Friday school sport.

Melbourne Cup at MHYC - Limited seats still available

Join us for the race that stops a nation - Melbourne Cup - on Tuesday 6th November, 2012, in the Harbourview Bar & Bistro from 12 noon.

$70 Members/$80 Non Members.

Special Sailing Clinic with Malcolm Page

As part of the Club's Sailing Clinics, dual Olympic gold medallist and MHYC Member, Malcolm Page, will be our guest speaker on Wednesday 14th November, 2012, at 7.30pm.  Malcolm will be recapping his campaign  and success from the recent London Olympics.

As part of the Club’s new strategic plan, we have reached a preliminary agreement with well know Mosman trainers, Tani Ruckle and Michael Lynch, to offer a range of fitness and wellness programs to Club Members to be run from the Club premises.

Offshore Sail & (Basic) Navigation Exercises - 10th November, 2012

For those not racing that day, why not sail in company with a few other Club yachts to an offshore waypoint to revise your basic navigation skills? Whilst enjoying this fun sail over the horizon, refresh those manual navigation skills, which are so useful for getting the most out of your GPS/Plotter. Review your course made good with the other yachts during a late afternoon raft-up.

CYCA Safety Day

On Sunday November 4, commencing at 9.30 am, The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia will be holding a Marine Safety Day that no one who ventures to sea, be it cruising or racing, should miss.
One of the main features is information about what will happen if you run into trouble at sea that you can't handle and radio for assistance.
