Grant Dawson
I have been a Director of MHYC for 12 months. I am an active sailing member and like most of us want to see MHYC fulfil its potential. For that reason I am seeking re-election to the board in 2010.
My first year on the board saw me initiate the 2010 Members’ Survey. My intention is for the Survey to be conducted annually providing ongoing and valuable member feedback. In the same period I was also instrumental in the new MHYC management structure – separating the marine and land functions to provide the focus needed at this time to grow both areas of the club.
Professionally, I have over 25 years management expertise in both start-up and corporate businesses. Presently I am director of worldwide customer sales and retention for a division of Symantec.
Walter Carpenter
I joined the Board of MHYC in 2004. During my tenure as a Director of MHYC I have chaired the Build a Better Club capital Appeal which raised over $ 800,000 and served on the Food and Beverage Committee. I have also held responsibility for oversight of leases to the Club’s tenants.
My business career commenced in 1982 with Price Waterhouse. 3 years later I moved into banking. In 1989 I moved to Hong Kong to take up a management position with a diversified property group. In 1992 I returned to Australia and established a commercial property business. I sold that business to Savills in 2003 at which time the business employed over 1,000 people.
Currently I am CEO of Flat Glass Industries Ltd and a non executive director of Campus Living Villages.
Neil Padden
I have been The Club’s Director/ Treasurer since 2008. During this time I have invested many hours in revising processes and participating in many of the committees that guide and direct the Clubs operations and future.
I am a passionate sailor and participate on a regular basis in a range of Club sailing.
Geoffrey Pearson
I started my working life in banking management and human relations, although most of my years have been spent in the marine industry. I am well equipped to assist or lead in committee and general club matters. Having a sound financial base and expanding the sailing division at MHYC is paramount to me. I would like to see a new MHYC business plan and look at the achievements or otherwise of the clubs “vision” to 2012. I have previously served on sub-committees, forward planning and as a divisional representative on several occasions at MHYC. I am a proud and loyal club member, who first sailed at MHYC nearly 50 years ago and I have been a continuous member for over 35 years.
Jack (John) Stening
I am keen to contribute to the Board and the Club in the following areas:
• Marina extension. The design, the approval process, construction and funding are all complex projects. I bring experience and learning from the current marina and project management experience to this critical activity.
• Focus on profitability and repaying debt (debentures),
• Succession planning
• Contributing to membership growth strategies
• Understanding and meeting members expectations
I am an active member of MHYC and race regularly on Saturdays, Wednesdays and Thursday twilights, my crew list for ‘Stormaway’ includes 14 MHYC members.
I am an active volunteer at the club, participating in the Marina Optimisation Committee, the Marina Extension Committee, the Membership Committee, the Capital Works Committee and assisting in regular marina maintenance activities.
I have previously served 6 years on the Board and 5 years as Club Captain. Prior to this I was in senior management in a large corporation.
