Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club E Newsletter. 

MHYC's Opening Day and Sail Past is on this Saturday 3rd September, 2011.  The theme this year is National Flags, in conjunction with Australia's National Flag Day.  We would love to see you all here to bring in the start of the season, dress up your boats and crew - prizes for best dressed!  There will be a jumping castle, face painting and sand castle building competitions from 10.30am for the kids, with the Commodore's Welcome and morning tea at 11am and the Sail Past at 12 noon, followed by the Commodore's Front Up Cup race.

2011 Sail Past & Open Day - Saturday 3rd September

You are invited to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's Opening Day and Sail Past on Saturday 3rd September.  The festivities begin from 10am with the Sandbar serving coffe/tea, egg and bacon rolls etc, and kids activities, such as face painting, jumping castle and sand building competition, commencing at 10.30am, followed by MHYC's Commodore's Welcome and toast to the new sailing season.

Commodore's Front Up Cup

A reminder to Skippers to present to the Sailing Office, a YA Special Regulations Check, copy of insurance and crew list before your entry will be accepted.

Sailing Instructions will be posted on the Club website this evening. Handicaps will be available from Friday evening.

Father's Day Lunch at MHYC

Seabreeze will be open on Sunday 4th September from 11.30am for Father's Day.  Treat your Dad (or Grandad) for lunch overlooking Middle Harbour at MHYC - all dad's will receive a complimentary beer on arrival!

Audi Hamilton Island Race Week and Audi IRC Australian Championships 2011

Race Week this year seemed to be all or nothing. For the first 3 races we have sunny skies, but 30+ knot winds from the SE! It blew so hard, it seemed to blown all the winds away and for the 2nd half of the week we were left with very little wind and lots of low cloud.

Season Entries & Notice of Race Now Available

Notice to members that the Season Entry Forms and Notice of Race are now available online - click here -  and in the foyer of the Club.

New Season Sailing Handbook

The new Season Sailing Handbooks are now available. Handbooks were distributed to those that attended the annual Skipper’s Briefing last Friday night.

Each boat owner is entitled to two (2) copies of the handbook, all other members are entitled to one (1) copy.

If you were not present at the Annual Skipper’s Briefing, handbooks are now available for collection from the Sailing Office.

The new MHYC Sailing Handbook comes into affect from today, Thursday 1st September 2011.

Get Set Weekend Report

The Annual Get Set weekend was held last weekend, commencing with the Annual Skippers Briefing on the Friday night. A good turn out of boat owners, skippers and crew, heard important information regarding the new Sailing Season and picked up their new Sailing Handbooks.

The Special Regulations Audits on the Saturday and Sunday were conducted by an exceptional volunteer team lead by Chief Special Regulations auditor Bill Allen. A big thank you to the team consisting of, Trevor D’Alton, Mike McEvoy, Phil Darling, Phil Clinton, Tony Levett, Ted Hamilton, Richard Jarvis, Mitch Miller and Grant Dawson.

65 Audits were conducted over the 2 days, with most owners being well prepared and helpful.

If you missed the Get Set Weekend, please contact the Sailing Office to arrange an Audit.
 

Wednesday Series

The final Race of the MHYC 2010-11 Season was completed with the Wednesday Series 4 final, Race 14. Congratulations to the following Series 4 winners;

Lion Island Race (SASC) 10 September

A reminder to Competitors in the Gillawa Shield and Ocean Pointscore Series to submit your entry form and supplementing documentation to enter these two MHYC Series. If you are entering the Gillawa or OPS Series as a block entrant with MHYC, the Sailing Office will forward your entry to the SASC. All other competitors must enter directly with the SASC.

Sail Locker at MHYC

The Sail Locker at MHYC is now available for use.  The key to the roller door is available from the office as normal.

Meet & Greet Night for Skippers & Crew - 23rd September at 6.30pm

Finding Crew....easy, no drama????
This does not happen automatically, it requires great effort and follow through.
This is one of the major problems we encounter when we talk to members and skippers.

Not a new problem it is one of the oldest problems we have found.
Last year we started the “Meet & greet Nights” the aim of this evening was to get skippers and crew into the same room so that the skippers could present a 10 min outline of their program for their yacht for the coming season. What they were looking for in crew and would they take inexperienced crew.

2011 470 Junior Worlds and Junior Europeans Report

For the past month we have been over in Europe competing in the 470 Junior Worlds and Junior Europeans Championships. The First stop of the trip was the Medemblik Regatta centre in the Netherlands, where the 2011 470 Junior Worlds where held from the20-28th of July.

Tune into ONE HD from Saturday 3rd September

The 2011 Audi IRC Australian Championship will go to air on ONE HD from Saturday 3 September at 6:00pm. This year's series will comprise of eight 30 minute episodes. The TV series is produced by Audi Australia and Fuzzy TV. Network Ten sports presenter, Rob Canning, is the host of this year's series and will be joined by expert commentators, Will Hagon and Neville Wittey. Our Club Commodore, Julie Hodder, filmed a segment for an episode of the series here at the Club and on board Exile last Friday 29 July – tune in for the series and this episode which we’ve been advised will appear in about the 3rd week of the series.
