MHYC E News 8th March, 2017
Welcome to MIDDLE HARBOUR YACHT CLUB's E-Newsletter
By all accounts, the 2017 Sydney Harbour Regatta was a huge success! The windy conditions made for some exciting if somewhat bumpy sailing with some courses being reset or having to sail fewer races. The SHR Race Management Committee in conjunction with the supporting club's race teams did an outstanding job in co-ordinating all the course areas and ensuring safety was top of the list. The regatta saw 226 boats entered which was a fantastic result. Our thanks to all the Sydney Clubs that helped make this such a success, our wonderful volunteers both on water and on land, all MHYC staff and our sponsors, Helly Hansen, Abell Point Marina, Robert Oatley Vineyards, Air New Zealand & Sydney City Marine.
Photos of the regatta and the prize presentation have now been posted to the Sydney Harbour Regatta website under Gallery as well as a short video courtesy of Flying Fish Sail Academy. To purchase any sailing images, please contact Andrea Francolini at www.afrancolini.com.
Message from Karen Baldwin, General Manager MHYC
What a great Sydney Harbour Regatta last weekend! I know lots of “thank you” messages have already been sent out to all those who participated as skippers, crew, volunteers and the MHYC staff so I just wanted to emphasise our appreciation to everyone who helped make the 2017 SHR an outstanding success!
Marina Rules – this is a reminder to all MHYC members and particularly marina berthholders. We have a procedure in place that anyone (contractor, supplier or even another member) who is engaged or requested to carry out work on a vessel in the MHYC marina that they sign in at the Club office.

Help Needed - Many thanks to all the on water race management teams who performed so magnifiently under trying conditions over the Sydney Harbour Regatta weekend. Several have volunteered to help again this Saturday but understandably some would like a weekend off, so we need additional volunteers for the next two Saturdays.
Please let Roger Wragby know if you can help - some experience preferred but not essential as we have both offshore and inshore racing.
Positions Vacant - Volunteers: Wanted for Club Boat Maintenance
We are seeking a few more volunteers -
Skills Needed : general ‘handyman' or reasonable painting skills.
When Required: Work with 1 or 2 other volunteers on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, or work independently at times to suit you.
Progress so far: A small team of 6 skilled volunteers is renovating and maintaining the Club boats: Hugh George, Sandpiper, Tenders and RIB’s,
Extensive renovation work is more than 60% complete on Hugh George and Sandpiper has been painted with only the top-sides to be done when the boat is slipped in winter. We are fortunate to have some very skilled members in the team, along with Matt, to lead us in the work, engineers and other technical people are needed as well as generally handy people. The team is welcoming and the work is very rewarding.
This could be the satisfying contribution that you would like to make to Your Club and would be greatly appreciated! Jack Stening is coordinating the volunteers and Marina Manager, Matt Pyne has responsibility for the vessels. Please call Jack on 0414 996 868 if you are interested.
