We Need your Help!
Thanks to members who donated their boats and time in support of the recent Giant Steps Regatta held at our Club on Friday 28th October, and a reminder that we also have the annual ASX Thomson Reuters Charity Regatta coming up on Friday 18th November. It is always a very busy day at the Club, so this is just a reminder.
The Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship (SSORC) is also not far away and standard entries will be closing for this at midnight on Friday 11th November.
Both SSORC and the Sydney Harbour Regatta are the Club’s most significant annual events and will always attract a strong fleet of participants from other Yacht Clubs and with this comes a slight problem – how do we provide berthing spaces for all these visitors keen to participate in our event and visit our Club? Our Marina is currently 100% full – a great problem to have, but in order to make these events a great success, we need berthing space.
So, in the spirit of supporting of the Club’s on-water racing activities we kindly ask for members to advise if they are either planning to be away from the Club on the weekend of 26 & 27 November or would be willing to move their boat to another location to enable as many boats as possible to be able to stay at the Club.
If you are able to assist, please let either myself or Matt Pyne know as soon as possible. Many thanks in advance of your support!

Melges 20 - Available this Saturday 12th November, 2016
Interest is gathering from various club members in taking these sportboats out for a race from time to time. Nicky Bethwaite will give you an orientation so that you have complete confidence in the rigging, launching and retrieval process, and will also (for the price of a glass of wine!) make up the numbers if you're short of crew. Just give her a call (0414 901 309) or send an email to nickyb@mhyc.com.au with a brief resume of your sailing background and that's all it takes to get out on the harbour and enjoy the summer weather.
Thursday Twilight Series - Race 6, 10th November, 2016
The Thursday Twilight series has begun and Race 6 tomorrow night, 10th November, 2016, with a count up handicap start from 6pm. Post racing presentation and the Bistro open for a meal or alternatively, enjoy barbeque food from The BBQ Cooking School, downstairs on the beach - get the crew together, support the Club and celebrate after the race! To book a table at the Bistro, call 9969 1244 and book in your Boat name!

Bill Allen Retires from MHYC Sailing Committee
Bill Allen has been an active sailing member at MHYC since 1976 In addition, he has also spent considerable time in on various yachting committees, helping to improve our sport.
Around the mid-80’s Bill first started working with our Safety Inspector John Taylor, helping to inspect boats. Bill joined the MHYC Sailing Committee a little on 20 years ago and has been our Chief Special Regulation Office Representative on the YNSW Special Auditing Committee ever since.
For a while he was also on our Protest Committee and presided over many club and international protests. He was amazed at just how many owners (often famous) did not know the rules well.
Bill, at just on 90 has decided to retire from the MHYC and YNSW committees this year. We would just like to thank him for all the work that he has done for us over the past years. Bill is a quite achiever and his two biggest voluntary tasks at our club can sometimes be difficult and thankless.
Frank Walker (from YNSW Special Regulations Committee) said “We are very sad to see him go. Bill was an excellent mentor and very diligent. He always had a good point of view and asked appropriate interesting questions. He was never one for giving up easily”.
We at MHYC would like to thank you Bill for all your efforts. You are a true gentleman and have demonstrated great professionalism and fairness in all the work you have done for us and the whole yachting community.
