Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's E-Newsletter.
Our fourth and final Ladies Lunch for 2015 is being held tomorrow with all seats booked out! With guest speaker, Amanda Tabberer, speaking on her books, "My Amalfi Coast" and "Amalfi Coast Recipes", it is sure to be a very entertaining lunch. We will also be drawing the amazing prize of a 7 night self-drive barge cruising the Canal du Midi in the South of France, kindly donated by Locaboat Holidays and Travel View Cruise View. Good luck to everyone! Please note that the Harbourview Bistro will be closed for lunch tomorrow, Thursday 22nd October, 2015, and will reopen for dinner.
Saturday 17th October, 2015, Race Officer Report
A trying day for everyone last Saturday. A change had come through at about 5am and at 11am we had 12+ kts slightly left of SE at Grotto with more right it it towards the middle of the Sound.
It was always going to tend left, the question was by how much ? The general concensus on the start boat was that it was unlikely that things would heat up enough to get it any further left than east and if it did get that far it would most likely fade before swinging back to the right and building later in the day. We don't have an ESE course and the E course is generally not popular with competitors, particularly in a soggy breeze when its a slow lumpy day. In those conditions most prefer a windward - leeward but with Sprints the next Saturday that wasn't high on the on the list.

Farr 40 Class One Design Trophy - 24th & 25th October, 2015
The first of three open regattas of the Farr 40 Class begins this weekend, 24th & 25th October, 2015, hosted by MHYC, which precede the Farr 40 NSW State Titles and the National Championships in January, 2016. MHYC have 5 Farr 40 yachts entered - Edake (Jeff Carter), Exile (Rob Reynolds), Kindergarten (Rod Jones), Transfusion (Guido Belgionro-Nettis) & Zen (Gordon Ketelbey)!

Giant Steps Autism Regatta - Friday 30th October, 2015
The annual Giant Steps Autism Regatta will be held at MHYC on Friday 30th October, 2015. Over 17 boats are entered with funds raised from the day going directly to Giant Steps Sydney, a world class centre for children with autism. Handicap Clubhouse start at 1330 hours. Please be reminded that all boats entered in a block entry to a MHYC Annual or Twilight Series, allows FREE entry to MHYC's Feature Events - the next one being the Sydney Harbour Trek on Saturday 31st October, 2015. The race is alternative Round-the-Harbour Courses with a 1230hrs Count Up Clubhouse start.

Race Management Training - Just Some Fun or a New Vocation?
Week in, week out all Yacht Clubs rely upon their Volunteer Race Management teams to ensure our yacht racing community enjoy the opportunity to participate in professionally run races throughout the year. Our Club is no exception and we have been very well supported over many years by a core team of Member volunteers, supplemented with yacht crews, who are often acknowledged as the “best in the business”.
So, have you thought about adding another skill to your sailing bag? The Club is seeking Expressions of Interest from Members who might wish to embark on the journey of Race Management and join the current team. Whether it’s a regular Saturday point score or a major regatta, you are guaranteed to learn more about the art of yacht racing from a totally different perspective and you will certainly enjoy yourself.

Cruising Division - Flare Practice 16th November, 2015

The 16th November 2015 Flare Practice starts at around 8.00pm, after the normal Cruising Division meeting which will be held at 7.30pm, with the BYO BBQ at 6.30pm.

School Holiday Kids Sailing Camps for December & January - Bookings are Now Open
Bookings for the School Holiday Kids Sailing Camps for Tackers (7 - 12 year olds) and Learn to Sail Teenagers (13-18 year olds) are now open online. Sailing Camps will operate over 4 days in December 2015 and January 2016. For all information and bookings - click here.
Sandbar Cafe - open 7 days a week
The Sandbar Cafe is open 7 days a week from 8am. There is a variety of selections from gourmet rolls, quiches, toasties, pies to sweet treats of brownies, cookies, muffins, caramel slice. Relax by the beach with a coffee or a glass of wine while enjoying the view!
New Menu for the Harbourview Bar & Bistro
The Harbourview Bar & Bistro has introduced its new menu. Come down to the Club and try the new offerings - we hope you enjoy them! MHYC Member, Bob Cox and his wife Gail, had lunch at the Bistro last Sunday and commented, "The food was really great and we also had a good chardonnay, that is new on the wine list. It was well worth coming down to the Club to eat and we recommend it to all Members".
Harbourview Bar & Bistro is open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights.
