Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's E-Newsletter.  Some great prizes up for grabs this Saturday 16th August at the "Spit to the Zoo" Challenge hosted by MHYC.  Registration opens at 7am. Race starts at 8.30am. 16km long course and 8 km short course.  The Mike Snell Trophy will be awarded to the fastest single long course ski paddler on the day.

Many thanks to all those that turned up to the Club's Wine Tasting last Friday night.  It was a great success with around 50 people enjoying the vast selection of wines on offer and dinner specials at the Bistro.

Sydney City Marine Leading Edge Series - Race 3 - Saturday 16th August, 2014

For those who wish to keep racing on Saturdays until the 2014/5 program begins in September, the SCM Leading Edge series runs for 5 races from 2 August.

The Leading Edge series features a Clubhouse Start, pursuit racing from 1230, with both Spinnaker and Non Spinnaker divisions, casual and series entrants welcome

Wednesday Series 4 supported by Inner Circle Rum

Race 10 of Series 4 for the 2013-14 season today, Wednesday 13th August, 2014. Please be reminded that the handicaps are count up and also handicap start is now from 1300 hours. Raffle tickets will be selling post race for the fantastic Meat Tray.

Fire Extinguisher Servicing Day – 30th August

The next Fire Extinguisher Servicing Day at MHYC will be on Saturday 30th August (8:30am – 12:30pm).

Club Short Series – Race 1: 13th September
Premier Series – Race 1: 20th September
Ocean Pointscore Series – Race 1: 27th September
Thursday Series – Race 1: 9th October

Race Management Volunteers Required for 2014/15 Season

Our new Sailing Season starts on Saturday 6 September with the Annual Sail Past and Commodores Front Up Cup, with the first on-water start on the 13 September.

We would welcome new volunteers for the start boat “Hugh George” for the coming season. Volunteers on the Club's start boat enjoy learning race management skills and being part of a team with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Newcomers will always be placed with experienced race officers. A light lunch and refreshments are provided, and on “Hugh George” you will be comfortable and largely protected from the elements.
So if you are no longer sailing regularly and can spare the odd Saturday, or have a spouse, friend or partner for example who would like to be out on the water while you are racing, please advise the Sailing Office and a roster will be prepared, or let us know if you would like further information.

Term 3 has begun and continues each Sunday through to 14th September, 2014.

MHYC is looking for fun and dedicated individuals who are passionate about sailing and wish to join one of the largest training programs for kids in Australia. We have positions available for Dinghy Instructors, Assistant Instructors, Tackers accredited Instructors and Coaches.

Kid's Disco & Karaoke - this Friday 15th August

Bring the kids down to the Club this Friday 15th August from 6pm to 8pm for 2 hours of singing and dancing with Bop Till You Drop. $10 per child (inc. snack & drink). Bistro & bar open from 6pm.

MHYC Membership expires on 31st August, 2014.  Please be reminded to renew your membership before this date.  New membership cards will be ready next week for posting. Online renewals are also available through the MHYC website - click here.

Spit to the Zoo Challenge 2014 - this Sayturday 16th August

Race 11 of the Paddle NSW 2014 Harbour Series will be held from MHYC this Saturday 16th August, 2014, with the race starting at 8.30am.  The challenge will consist of a 16km long course or 8km short course - surf skis, spec skis, SUP's, outriggers and sea kayaks welcome.  Registration from 7am.

Commodore’s Ball – Celebrate in Style - Friday 12th September, 2014 - Book Online

With only 4 weeks to go, the MHYC's Commodore’s Ball, to be held on Friday 12th September 2014, is shaping up to be a fantastic evening - don't miss out!   Book online for a table of 10 or join in with others.   We will also be unveiling our new Olympic Honour Board to honour those MHYC Members who became Olympians, at the pre-dinner drinks at the Club from 6pm. Mosman Foreshore Parking - The Spit 

The first 100 parking permits have now been printed and awaiting collection from the Club.  We are currently taking additional names for those that would like to go on the waiting list for the next batch.  We are required to reach another 100 to receive the 50% discount or 30+ to receive a 25% discount.  Please call reception to be added to the waiting list on 9969 1244.

Annual Skippers Briefing - Friday 29th August, 2014

The Annual Skipper’s Briefing will be held at MHYC on Friday 29th August 6:30pm for 7:00pm.
Attendance at the briefing is mandatory for each boat competing in any race, in the 2014-2015 Season, as required by the NSW Roads and Maritime Services issued Aquatic Licence. Each boat shall be represented by either the ‘Owner’ or ‘Person in Charge’, as indicated on the entry form.

Opening Day - Saturday 6th September, 2014

Celebrate the beginning of the 2014/15 Sailing Season, thank our wonderful volunteers & join in the MHYC Sail Past on Saturday 6th September, 2014. Breakfast from 9am, kids activities from 10.30am, Sail Past at 12noon, Commodore's Front Up Cup Race starts at 12.30pm, Race Presentation and prizes for best dressed boat and crew from approx 4.45pm.

Theme for this Year - Dress your boat and crew in your favourite sport!
