Mother's Day at MHYC - Sunday 12th May, 2013

Treat your Mum to lunch at MHYC. The Bistro and Sandbar will both be open for Mother's Day.  The Bistro will be serving bistro lunch from 12 noon and the Sandbar & Cafe will be open from 8am.  Limited seats available for the Bistro.

Wednesday Series 3

Series 3 for the 2012-13 season, race 10 today, Wednesday 8th May, 2013.  Entries are open online - click here. Please be reminded that the handicaps are count up and also handicap start is now from 1300 hours.  Back by popular demand - Raffle tickets will be selling post race for a Meat Tray.

Sydney City Marine Winter Series

Last Saturday saw the 1st race of Middle Harbour Yacht Club’s Sydney City Marine Winter Series – a 10-race series from 4 May to 20 July with a break on 8 and 15 June.
1st Place were as follows:-

Get "Checked" Weekend - 15th & 16th June 2013

With the implementation of the new set of YA Special Regulations (Blue Book) coming to effect from 1st July, 2013, the Sailing Committee has programmed for MHYC to run a Get "Checked" Weekend on Saturday 15th June and Sunday 16th June, 2013.  The initiative is to get boats audited under the new Special Regulations (revised every 4 years) in preparation for the major races and regattas in the Winter and Queensland racing season.

Fire Extinguisher Servicing

MHYC has organised Graeme Sedgeman of Sedgman Fire to be at the Club to service Member's fire extinguishers.  The dates and times are as follows:-

Saturday 29th June 8am - 2pm
Saturday 31st August 8am - 2pm
Saturday 21st September 8am - 2pm

Tackers Zero a Raging Success at MHYC

Each Sunday morning this Summer season, MHYC Members have been treated to the sight of kids as young as 3 sailing around in the marina. It all began when some dads, last Spring, asked if they could borrow a couple of the Club's training optis between lessons. Their idea was to use the already rigged boats left on the beach between lessons for their young kids to play on. Within a few weeks the Tackers Zero program was running and growing.

Queensland Optimist State Championships

Three MHYC Optimist sailors had success at the QLD States last weekend.
Alec Brodie, 2nd overall, Ashley Coles, 6th overall and 2nd female (1st female was the current National Champion) and Otto Henry, 9th overall and 1st 11yrs (also ahead of all 12 & 13 yrs)
The quality at the top end of this regatta was as high as it gets in Australia.  Apart from Ashley and Otto, all other sailors in the top 10 have been selected to represent Australia at the upcoming World Championship or Asian Championship. Fantastic sailing by these young sailors!

As many yachties are aware, our Irish sailing mate, Joe English was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2007, so to help raise funds for Joe's current and future care, which will eventually involve expensive fulltime hospitalisation, the Joe English Trust was established solely to raise money to help him.
