This year the 2013 Barefoot Ball is on Saturday 9th February from 7pm - so only 1 week away.  The theme this year is "Mexican" so get out your sombreros and maracas for a fun night with live band, "Planet Groove" and DJ until the early hours.

Sydney Harbour Regatta Notice of Race online and entry open

Middle Harbour Yacht Club will host the 8th edition of its popular Sydney Harbour Regatta in March and the Notice of Race is now available online at: http://www.shr.mhyc.com.au where prospective competitors can also now enter electronically.

Early entry discount ends soon!

To be held on Saturday and Sunday 9-10 March, the regatta, which brings major racing to a close for the year in NSW, attracts entries from across NSW and from interstate, bringing together club racers, state, national and world champions, along with Olympians.

The Summer Pointscore Series begins with Race 1 on Saturday 2nd February, 2013 for Open and Inshore divisions.  Online entries are now open - click here.

Race 9 of the Club Short Series will also be held on Saturday 2nd February, 2013.

Thursday Twilight Race Reports - Race 14 & 15

It was yet another nice evening for a sail. It apperars it will never rain in Sydney again and was Course 3 to Shark Island and home in a 18 knot NNE with 0.5m waves. It was a fast race with the bigger boats making the most of the stronger winds. Good to see Guido out with 'Transfusion'.

MHYC Thursday Twilight race 15 was interesting. Had everything except enough wind for most boats to finish the course! It was the 2 beer Course 5. Race started well enough in a 8knot SE with no waves but as the wind reduced it ended up into a 5 beer epic! There were runmours that some boats even ran out of beer!

Tuesday Twilight Series - 4 races to go!

The next Tuesday Twilight race will be held on Tuesday 5th February, 2013, being one of only 4 races left for the series.  It is a great, fun-filled, relaxed social evening so why not come out on the water with us before it all finishes!  We look forward to you joining us.

Beach BBQ & Harbourview Bar & Bistro Open for Twilights

The delicious menu offerings for the Twilight Series will again consist of either casual meals from the BBQ ranging in price from $7 to $12, from Beef Korma with vegetables & rice, Chicken burger, or Moroccan cous cous with baby fried vegetables (cold), to a Twilight bistro menu in the Harbourview Bar & Bistro.  Bookings are essential for the Bistro. Please call 9969 1244 to book a table.

Series 2 for the 2012-13 season, Race 8 today, Wednesday 30th January, 2013,  Entries are now open for Series 2 online - click here. Please be reminded that the handicaps are count up and also handicap start is from 1330 hours.

2013 Optimist  National Championships

Middle Harbour Yacht Club’s junior Optimist sailors performed exceptionally well at the 2013 Optimist  National Championships in Hobart earlier this month.  In very windy and testing conditions (rarely less than 20 knots and in some races gusting to 30 and even 40 knots), Max Paul won the under 12 division and came 15th (13th Australian) in the Open (u16 ). Otto Henry came 3rd in the under 11 division and John-Mark Paul 2nd in the under 10 division. Alec Brodie came 7th (6th Australian) in the Open and qualified to compete in the Asian Championships in Japan later this year with Chelsea Connor, who finished 3rd female . Charlotte Griffin finished 4th female and Ashlegh Coles 5th. Alec, Max, Chelsea, Charlotte and Flynn Rohr were all selected to the Australian Optimist Sailing Team (AOST) for 2013, making them eligible to sail in a number of overseas championships this year. MHYC had more sailors than any other club in Australia selected for the AOST this year. This is an impressive outcome for Middle Harbour Yacht Club’s junior sailing program and testament to the hard work of the sailors, coaches and supporters of the junior sailing program. Other junior sailors, including Jack and Flynn Twomey, up and coming young sailors Archie Cropley and Tom Green, and Pia and Hugo Stoner also achieved outstanding results in the challenging conditions.

2013 Adams 10 National Championships

The Adams 10 National Championships was held over the long weekend and hosted by MHYC. Many thanks to all our Race Management volunteers who faced the big swells with the wild weather we experienced!
