Top Girls Dominate State Titles
MHYC was lucky enough to host the 2014 NSW 420 and 470 State Championships, in what turned out to be perfect conditions. This was the second time MHYC had run the championships, and after the last attempt being held in pouring rain, freezing conditions and 30knots plus of wind, it was welcomed by everyone to have the summery conditions. The NSW fleets have been slowly building over the past 4 years to become the dominant state at the nationals at Christmas. With all the top end sailors turning out for the event, including sailors from South Australia, Victoria and Queensland, the competition was always going to be on from the start.

NSWIODA State Championships report
Close racing in good conditions at a wonderful venue with sailors with big smiles is what we want for our kids. All these were there on offer at GRSC on Botany Bay again today.
Flyn Twomey won the day, but was challenged right up to the final race with the result in the balance until the last finish. Otto Henry was chomping at Flyn's heels until the absolute end with Isabelle Kenny ( all the way from WA ) very much in the final mix. Archie Cropley's couple of bullets got people thinking, and making the Championship the true test it should be. Matt Meaney from South Aust was much in the money all the way through as well.
Congratulations also to our Intermediate Fleet winners we look forward to them challenging all Open podiums soon. The value of Intermediate was ably demonstrated here by RPAYC resurgence, Northbridge top 10 numbers and Royal Sydney on the Podium.Congrats to Oliver Gordon (RPAYC), James Huon(RPAYC), and Henry Davison (RSYS) on 1,2,3.
Watching Green Fleet on the beach "grandstand" was great .What a specal and very rare treat to see and cheer on our sailors so closely!
Also well done Mina Ferguson from Northbridge on winning the NSW Encouragement Award. Watch out for her her down the track! Notable other female sailors were Maddie Sloane in her division, Natasha Bryant and all the way from WA, Isabelle Kenny. Go Girls!
Andrew McLaughlin and his dedicated team from Georges River Sailing Club again staged a wonderful event showing off a great venue and champagne sailing waters and good facilties! Thank-you!! Also well done all the volunteers from a number of Clubs without whom the event would not be remembered the way it will be. Northbridge and Woollahra as usual stepped up, this time with the BBQ. Thanks.
These events rely on a whole lot of things happening, and are in no small part succesful without the support of very geneous sponsors. We are very grateful to have had on board NB Sailsports as major sonsors. NB through boats, coaching and other services are making terrific efforts to help make NSW sailing and Opti sailors successful. Oziopti are and have been great long time sponsors for NSW sailors and have generously suppled prizes for all our sailors as well. Thank-you to Gill as well for their continued support of Opti sailors.
Thanks mostly to all the Opti sailors, their parents, helpers, Clubs and coaches and myriad volunteers!
Smiles and fun are what mark Opti sailing and this States certainly showed these.
Queenland, South Aussie, Victorian and WA sailors made big efforts to be here with top results shown.
Congrats to all the Trophy and Podium sailors.
