Squads Report
The North Westerlies were back with a touch of Winter as we had a smaller group of racers out for the day. With a number of 420s leading the way, with some intense and close racing, the gap between Finn and Louis is slowly closing as James and Connor managed to take a race from them and were very unlucky to not take a second race from them as well. A special mention must be made to Kirsty Sturrock, who with absolute grace managed to miss her trapeze hook and fall out of the boat. However, to her credit, she was able to hold onto the boat and make a quick recovery.
In the Optimists, it was a day of Development Squad racing, with most of our race squad away competing at the Ice Breaker Series at RPAYC. The Devt Squad sailors enjoyed a race course to themselves and didn't disappoint with all the boats within metres of eachother and fighting it out. It was great to see a number of different winners including Natasha Nisbet, Tim White and Jack Rooney.
With only two cadets it was a bit of a Louis Vuitton race style of match racing going on. Coach Henry has them improving every week and it was great to see them throwing the boats around attacking eachother all the way around the course.
Thanks again to all the parents for running the racing. It has been great from a Club side of things to be able to have all the help and running of the racing. It must be mentioned that for the first time ever in the past couple of weeks myself and Alister have not had to worry about racing at all, as the parents have got in and helped out. Thanks again for all your help.

A Report From a Tacker!!
Last week Tacker sailor Ben Crafoord had to do a speech at school. He chose to do it about his sailing experience in Tackers. We would like to thank Ben for sharing it with us:
I love being on the water.
I use the water to sail on.
Every Sunday I go sailing on thewaters of Middle Harbour.
The sailing program that I do is called “Tackers”.
We sail in Optimist dinghies.
There are three levels of “Tackers” and currently I am in level three.
After you complete level three you then progress to “Squad”.
There are two levels In “Squad”.
1. Development Squad
2. Racing Squad
I hope to be in development squad this coming summer.
Whilst sailing I am always aware of the water.
I look at the water to see the gusts of wind as they darken the surface telling me the wind will strengthen and showing me the direction of the wind.
I also watch the movement of the water around piles and buoys showing me the direction of the current and tides.
Watching the water allows me to sail well.
To steer the Optimist I have to hold the tiller which is connected to the rudder which is a foil in the water.
I feel thewater flow around the rudder foil when I steer.
Feeling the water pressure against the rudder foil allows me to reduce drag in the water which allows me to sail faster.
Whilst I am watching the water for the wind and the tide and feeling the water on the rudder foil I am steering the boat through waves, doing all of these things well allows me to be competitive.
“Strong Closing”
As I mentioned at the beginning of my speech in my opening line I “love being on the water”.
I am sure you all would enjoy being on the water, with me, therefore I would like to invite all of my school friends in the K – 2 class to come down to sail at middle harbor yacht club and try sailing in the optimists.
So please come down to the yacht club this summer and enjoy the magnificent and sparkling waters of middle harbor, we are so lucky.

Skippers seeking crew for the Season can address the meeting, outlining their plans for the season and the type of crew they are seeking: potential crew can then introduce themselves to skippers and ask further questions: it is envisaged that crew attendees will be those currently on the crew list, new MHYC members and Junior Sailing parents.
