Sensational and amazing efforts from our Australian Sailing Team! Congratulations to Tom Burton winning a Gold Olympic medal in the Lasers and Lisa Darmanin and Jason Waterhouse winning a Silver Olympic medal in the Nacra. Well done to the whole team and we look forward to more excitement over the next two mornings with the Men's 470's and 49ers. Good luck!
Did you see MHYC on Channel 7's Sunrise tv show yesterday morning? The weatherman, Sam Mac, was at the Club doing live crosses from 5.30am - it was great to have some of our Members down here to cheer on our Australian Sailing Team Olympians - thank you to those who braved the early morning start and enjoyed the free bacon & egg rolls!!

MHYC Member and former Olympian, Nicky Bethwaite, was also interviewed this morning on ABC 702 with Wendy Harmer, following the Australian Sailing Team's sailing success in the Olympics so far - it's great to have MHYC and the sport of sailing reaching the public!

Sandbar Cafe - open 7 days a week - Hot soup now available
The Sandbar Cafe is open 7 days a week from 8am. Come down to the Club & enjoy our Winter treats - samosas, frittatas, pies, hot dogs! Also delicious soft centred muffins - try them warmed up! Hot soup is available daily - pumpkin & coconut, creamy tomato & basil, Nepalese lentil, cauliflower & parmesan! Youghurt with fresh fruit now available - a healthy start to the day!
Sandbar Deck - Restained
Please note that the Sandbar deck was restained yesterday by Marina Manager, Matt, and will take a few days to dry before access to this deck area. Extra seating has been placed on the walkway and Breezeway.
Harbourview Bar & Bistro - Winter Menu Available
The Harbourview Bar & Bistro has a Winter menu - come down to the Club and try it out!
Harbourview Bar & Bistro is open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and Friday and Saturday for dinner. Thursday nights will reopen with the start of the 2016/17 season.

Spit to the Zoo 2016 - Saturday 13th August, 2016 - Great turnout!
The 2016 Harbour Series - Spit to the Zoo 2016, was held last Saturday from MHYC with over 120 competitors. It was a glorious morning with the Long course taking competitors from MHYC 16kms to the Zoo, and the short course from MHYC to Balmoral over 8kms. Everyone enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere back at the Club enjoying the sun and listening to some live music with guitarist, Andy Mammers.

The Long Lunch - hosted by the Cruising Division - Sunday 21st August, 2016, 12 noon - Bookings Close tomorrow
The 40th Anniversary of the Cruising Division will be celebrated at the upcoming Long Lunch, hosted by the Cruising Division on Sunday 21st August, 2016, at 12 noon. $55 MHYC Members, $60 non members - includes 3 course lunch in the Quarterdeck Room.

Cruising Division - Next Meeting Rescheduled to Monday 22nd August, 2016
Please note that the next Cruising Division meeting will be held on Monday 22nd August, 2016, at 7.30pm. BYO BBQ at 6.30pm. This was due to a planned power outage at the Club on the regular date.

Ladies Lunch - Guest Speakers: Liz Chard & Tim Elliott - Thursday 1st September, 2016
The third of 4 Ladies Lunches for 2016 will be held on Thursday 1st September, 2016, at 12 noon. We will have two guest speakers - Liz Chard & Tim Elliot.
Liz has written a beautiful book of easy and delicious recipes for all seasons - "Entertaining on the Water" and will be able to impart some great ideas that will make entertaining on the water an enjoyable affair.
Tim Elliott is an award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in the SMH, Australian Financial Review and London's Financial Times and Sunday Times. His book, "Farewell to the Father" tells his memoir of growing up with a parent afflicted by mental illness - a story that will split your heart open.
$60 MHYC Members, $65 Non Members (includes 2 course lunch, wine, tea/coffee).

Come down to the Club to watch live the Wallabies Vs. New Zealand on the big screen! Kick off from 8pm. The Harbourview Bar & Bistro will be open from 6pm so why not grab a meal from the Bistro before the game!
MHYC Opening of the Season - Saturday 3rd September, 2016
The beginning of the 2016/17 season is around the corner and will be kicked off with Opening Day and Sail Past on Saturday 3rd September, 2016, from 10am. The theme for the day is "Family Entertainment". So dress up your boats and crew to your favourite family movie or TV show - is it "Finding Nemo" or "The Addams Family"???? There is a huge array of choice and prizes to be won!
The annual Sail Past and salute to the Flag Officers will commence approximately 11am and lead into the first Feature Event of the Season, the Commodore's Front Up Cup - click here to enter.
Father's Day at MHYC - Sunday 4th September, 2016
The Harbourview Bar & Bistro will be open for lunch on Father's Day, Sunday 4th September, 2016. The normal lunch menu will be available. As this is a popular day, book early as seating will be limited. Call the office on 02 9969 1244.
Middle Harbour to Newcastle Challenge - Friday 30th September, 2016
To all those who seek adventure, fun, camaraderie and parties incorporating boats, the Middle Harbour to Newcastle Challenge is for you. This is a joint venture with Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club and is set to become a permanent fixture on the Racing, Cruising and Motor boat calendar. To this end maximum participation is sought from both clubs and visiting clubs to ensure that this unique event continues long into the future. The event incorporates a race from Middle Harbour Yacht Club to the beautiful Newcastle Harbour beginning on Friday 30th September, 2016, from 0900 hours. This is an event for all racers, cruisers ,and motor boats with an event from Newcastle to Lake Macquarie.

Kid's Disco - Friday 19th August, 2016 6pm - 8pm
MHYC's monthly Kid's Disco will be held this Friday 19th August, 2016, from 6pm to 8pm in the Quarterdeck Room. $10 per child (includes a drink & snack). Bookings essential - call 9969 1244.
Clipper Round the World Race - Recruiting Crew!
The Clipper Race is a record breaking 40,000 nautical mile race on a fleet of 12 matched 70-foot ocean racing yachts which passes through Australia on its circumnavigation. On the 31st of August at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and on the 1st of September at the Castlereagh BoutiqueHotel, Della Parsons will be running information evenings about the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. A circumnavigator and TV documentary director, Della will share her insight about those eager to test their limits beyond belief over 11 months and more than 40,000nM in the world’s longest yacht race.
Come and hear about it from someone who has been there, stared Mother Nature in the eye and taken all she can muster. You will find out more about the selection process, training, the race, the fleet, stopovers, personal logistics and most importantly the race crew. Della will also be bringing the newly launched VR360º video, an immersive experience of the 2015-16 race that finished in July. You'll either walk away inspired or scared. One thing you won't be is bored.
