Message from MHYC General Manager, Karen Baldwin - Marine Industry Foundation
What a lot of members may not know is that I have been a Director of the Marina Industry Association for the past 8 years and last year I was invited on a Committee for a newly established Foundation for the Boating & Marine industry. Jeff D’Albora has provided start-up funding of $50k and will continue to match $/$ up to $200k. The Foundation has already started providing financial assistance to organisations like Sailability but also to individuals to help support their careers and development in the Boating & Marina industries.
Kay Cottee has accepted the role of Patron – and we have our first fund-raising lunch taking place on Friday 15th July at Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.
Special guest speaker will be well known journalist, writer & boatie, Rob Mundle, and we will also have Jessica Watson there on the day as well.
Click here to see the flyer regarding the event, in case you might be interested in getting together a group of like-minded boating & marina industry people to join us for what will be a most memorable lunch. As well as being a lot of fun, you will be part of the first fund-raising event to support this great Foundation.

Youth Sailing - Steaming Ahead
Testing the theory that too much sailing is never enough, a group of our top youngsters took to the water in Melges 20s after the Youth Presentation on Sunday. Judging by the smiles on their faces, the boats provided the thrills they were looking for. The Melges 20 will form the top tier of the youth sailing pathway for the 2016-2017 season in a trial program where the young sailors who graduate through the Tackers and Learn to Sail programs, can then opt for an intensive one-on-one training session to give their skills a final polish.
The Youth Presentation was held on the hardstand and as the sausages were sizzling, General Manager Karen Baldwin introduced the new Youth Coach, Nick Connor, thanked the outgoing coach Locky Pryor, and outlined the plans for the next season. These include strengthening the existing program of Tackers and Learn to Sail, offering travelling opportunities to regattas with Nick Connor in attendance, taking advantage of the proximity of the Australian Sailing Team to lift expertise and aspirations and of course, the Melges 20 program, complete with a racing package for the 2016-2017 season.
All enquiries should be directed to Nick Connor on email juniorsailing@mhyc.com.au
