It was a great finish to the Twilight season last Thursday with our Hawaiian night. Thank you all for making it a fun night and also a big thank you to our sponsors of the Twilight series, Wild Oats, Robert Oatley Vineyards, Yacht Sales Australia, Cosine Shipwright Serives, and All Sails. The first of four Ladies Lunches for 2016 has been changed to next Thursday 14th April, 2016. Our first speaker is Alexandra Joel, former editor of the Australian edition of Harper’s Bazaar and Portfolio magazines. She will be talking about her latest book, “Rosetta” - click here to read the article in last weekend's Sun Herald - it will be a fascinating talk - one not to be missed!. Cruising Division Meeting - Monday 18th April, 2016
The next meeting for the Cruising Division will be held on Monday 18th April, 2016, at 7.30pm. BYO BBQ at 6.30pm.
Guest Speaker: Phil Ross - “Writing for Sailing Magazines”
Phil Ross, Editor of Cruising Helmsman, will be back at MHYC as guest speaker at our Cruising Division meeting on April 18. Phil will give us some tips on how to write better cruising articles so that they will be published in the likes of the Cruising Helmsman or Compass Rose. We have all enjoyed extraordinary days sailing and we have all taken some great photos of those days. A few of us have written articles and had photos and stories published by magazines.
What makes an editor chose one article to publish over others? What are the do’s and don’ts of being published. Phil will give us the inside information.
YA Club Judge Course - Saturday 28th May, 2016
A half day course for Club level accreditation as a Club Judge, run by Yachting Australia, is being held at MHYC on Saturday 28th May, 2016, at 9am to 1.30pm. This is aimed at educating people who wish to become involved with the officiating aspect within the sport of Sailing. Judges play an important role within sailing ensuring on water adherence with particular rules and also in their capacity as members of protest committees to settle disputes off the water.

Vale Fran Marriott
With regret Members are advised of the death of MHYC Associate member, Fran Marriott, last Wednesday 30th March 2016. Fran joined Middle Harbour Yacht Club in 1975 and was a valued member of MHYC for 40 years and will be sorely missed. She was a tremendous supporter of MHYC, even living in Queensland and attending the Club’s Seniors Lunches every year when she could. She generously donated the Club’s current trophy cabinet situated in the Harbourview Room. Fran's funeral will be held in Queensland in the coming weeks with a Celebration of Fran's Life being held at MHYC on Friday 22nd April, 2016, at 12 noon.
Online Bookings Open - Tackers & Learn To Sail April School Holiday Camps & Term 2
Online bookings are now open for the April School Holiday Camps and Term 2 beginning Sunday 1st May, 2016. MHYC will be running Tackers and Learn to Sail camps from 9.15am - 3.30pm on Monday 11th April to Thursday 14th April and from Monday 18th April to Thursday 21st April, 2016.

Ladies Lunches 2016 - Thursday 14th April - note change of Date - Guest Speaker - Alexandra Joel
The first of MHYC's Ladies Lunches for 2016 will be held on Thursday 14th April, 2016, from 12 noon. Our guest speaker will be Alexandra Joel, Alexandra Joel is the author of Best Dressed: 200 Years of Fashion in Australia and Parade: the Story of Fashion in Australia. Both books detail the development of fashion, style and national identity. She will be talking about her new release novel, Rosetta.

Annual Prize Giving Presentation - Saturday 7th May, 2016 - Book Online
MHYC's Annual Prize Giving Presentation will be held on Saturday 7th May, 2016, from 6.30pm for 7pm start. $25 per person includes arrival drink & canapes - book online here or call 99691244. Awards will be presented for all Club divisions in the Annual & Twilight series (1st, 2nd & 3rd) for the 2015/16 sailing season, as well as the annual special awards. Crew Member of the Year nomination forms are available from reception.
Crew Member of the Year Award
The crew Member of the Year Award is presented to an esteemed crew member, displaying the characteristics of a desirable MHYC Member, someone other crew members would aspire to emulate, and nominated from of a yacht in a division of the Annual Pointscore during the 2015/16 season. The award will be presented at the Annual Prize Giving Presentaiton on 7th May, 2016.

Save the Date - MHYC Vivid Cruise - 26th May, 2016
It's on again - MHYC's Vivid Cruise! Join us on Thursday 26th May, 2016, on MV Sydney as we cruise around Sydney Harbour to view the Vivid Festival. Pick up from Mosman Wharf at 5.45pm for the cruise beginning at 6pm and returning at 9pm. Buffet dinner, tea & coffee plus cash bar - $75 per person. Call the MHYC office to book your spot!
