Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's E-Newsletter.
It was a beautiful day last Saturday for the Club's Opening Day for the 2015/16 season and sail past. The day began with a delicious breakfast buffet and champagne toast to the upcoming season by Chairman, Andrew Hurt. The traditional sail past began at 12 noon with a fantastic flotilla of yachts lining up behind Hugh George. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers and to everyone who participated and especially to those yachts and crew who dressed up to the theme of "Here Comes the Sun". The winners for the day were - best dressed boat - Zen - and best dressed crew - Bloodhound! Special mention to EXpresso, Sol and Haz2be for their efforts! Congratulations also to Peter Green, who won our early renewal prize of accommodation for 2 at Hamilton Island for 3 nights. Many thanks to Robery Oatley Vineyards for their generous donation.

Yacht Sales Australia Wednesday Series 1 - Race 2 - 9th September 2015
Race 2 of Series 1 for the 2015-16 season, will be held today, Wednesday 9th September, 2015. Please be reminded that the handicaps are count up starting from 1300 hours.

Thursday Twilight Series - begins 8th October, 2015

MHYC have hosted successful Meet’n’Greet evenings where current and new Members have the chance to jump aboard a yacht for the forthcoming Season. If you missed the chance to attend don’t be backward in coming forward…simply register your interest online - click here for information - or just turn up on the day and add your name to the Crew Board adjacent to the Sandbar where you will likely also find yachts looking for crew on the day / evening.

Skipper’s Briefing…Take II - 7th October, 2015
Our next, and final, briefing is planned for Wednesday 7 October as a precursor for the Twilight Series that gets underway the next night, Thursday 8 October.
All Skippers are reminded that it is a condition of our Aquatic Licence that they, or their (boat’s) representative, must attend a briefing before participating in MHYC events. For those that missed the first brief and wish to participate in the events before 7 October…don’t be concerned…a waiver is in place to ensure you don’t miss these early opportunities and can join in the 2016 Season from the start.
Racing Rules of Sailing
Following the success of our recent ‘double header’ event a Racing Rules of Sailing briefing is being planned to follow the Skipper’s Brief on Wednesday 7 October at approximately 1930 in the Main Bar. Our guest speaker will assist you unravelling and understanding the rules to both improve your knowledge and enhance your enjoyment in our events.
$10 Members/$15 Non Members.

Double Honours for Philosopher's Club
Peter Sorensen’s The Philosopher’s Club has won both the IRC and Performance divisions of the ninth annual SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week which concluded on September 1.
“We are absolutely ecstatic by this result,” Sorensen said. His excited crew quipped; “not bad for a team of amateurs and women sailors”.

Membership cards are now available for collection at the MHYC office. For those who are still to renew, it is not too late! There are many payment options - online, by phone, direct deposit or drop into the Club. Thank you to all those who have renewed their membership for the 2015/16 season and to those who have also contributed to the building levy to help raise funds to maintain our Club. Kid's Disco & Karaoke
The next Kid's Disco and Karaoke, with Bop Till You Drop, will be held on Friday 18th September, 2015, from 6pm to 8pm. $10 per child (includes a snack & drink). Bookings essential on 9969 1244.

Sandbar Cafe - open 7 days a week
Notice to all Members and Guests - the Sandbar Cafe is open 7 days a week from 8am. There is a variety of selections from gourmet rolls, quiches, toasties, pies to sweet treats of brownies, cookies, muffins, caramel slice. Relax by the beach with a coffee or a glass of wine while enjoying the view!

Ladies Lunch at MHYC - Amanda Tabberer - Thursday 22nd October
The last for 2015 of MHYC's Ladies Lunches will be held on Thursday 22nd October, 2015, from 12 noon. Our guest speaker, Amanda Tabberer, will be speaking on her experiences.
$60 Members, $65 Non members for wine, 2 course lunch and tea or coffee.
