Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's E-Newsletter.  Reminder to all MHYC Members that renewals for membership for the 2014/15 season are now due and expire on 31st August, 2014.  Renew online at www.mhyc.com.au or call the office on 9969 1244.  For those, who have renewed, thank you & new cards will be posted out this week.
The Annual Skippers Briefing will be held this Friday 29th August from 6.30pm for 7pm start,  in the main bar.

Sydney City Marine Leading Edge Series - Race 5 (Final) - Saturday 30th August, 2014

Race 5 and the final race of the Sydney City Marine Leading Edge Series will be held this Saturday 30th August, followed by the Series' presentation.

Wednesday Series 4 supported by Inner Circle Rum

Race 13 and final race of Series 4 for the 2013-14 season today, Wednesday 27th August, 2014. Please be reminded that the handicaps are count up and also handicap start is now from 1300 hours. Raffle tickets will be selling post race for the fantastic Meat Tray.

YA Special Regulations Equipment Audits

Did you miss the Get Checked Weekend? Please contact the Sailing Office to arrange an Equipment Audit before the new season gets underway. Don’t forget the MHYC Equipment Requirement form is needed as well. For more information click here.

Fire Extinguisher Servicing Day – 30th August

The next Fire Extinguisher Servicing Day at MHYC will be on Saturday 30th August (8:30am – 12:30pm).

Ocean Pointscore Series – Race 1: 27th September
Thursday Series – Race 1: 9th October

Tender Service Fees Now Due

The MHYC Tender Service fees are now due and payable for the 2014/15 season.  Please download the form here and email to Helen at helen@mhyc.com.au.

Race Management Volunteers Required for 2014/15 Season

Our new Sailing Season starts on Saturday 6 September with the Annual Sail Past and Commodores Front Up Cup, with the first on-water start on the 13 September.

We would welcome new volunteers for the start boat “Hugh George” for the coming season. Volunteers on the Club's start boat enjoy learning race management skills and being part of a team with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Newcomers will always be placed with experienced race officers. A light lunch and refreshments are provided, and on “Hugh George” you will be comfortable and largely protected from the elements.
So if you are no longer sailing regularly and can spare the odd Saturday, or have a spouse, friend or partner for example who would like to be out on the water while you are racing, please advise the Sailing Office and a roster will be prepared, or let us know if you would like further information.

Juniors Training Regatta Starts Off the Season

MHYC hosted the first regatta of the upcoming season for both the optimists and 420s last Sunday in what turned out to be ideal sailing conditions. With the Summer season knocking on the door, a training regatta was held for MHYC and NSC sailors for to blow out the cobwebs and start remembering what a regatta was like.

Commodore’s Ball – Last Chance to Book - Friday 12th September, 2014

Last chance to book for MHYC's Commodore’s Ball, to be held on Friday 12th September 2014 - don't miss out!   Book online for a table of 10 or join in with others.   We will also be unveiling our new Olympic Honour Board to honour those MHYC Members who became Olympians, at the pre-dinner drinks at the Club from 6pm. Mosman Foreshore Parking - The Spit 

The first 100 parking permits have now been printed and awaiting collection from the Club.  We are currently taking additional names for those that would like to go on the waiting list for the next batch.  We are required to reach another 100 to receive the 50% discount or 30+ to receive a 25% discount.  Please call reception to be added to the waiting list on 9969 1244.

Annual Skippers Briefing - Friday 29th August, 2014

The Annual Skipper’s Briefing will be held at MHYC on Friday 29th August 6:30pm for 7:00pm.
Attendance at the briefing is mandatory for each boat competing in any race, in the 2014-2015 Season, as required by the NSW Roads and Maritime Services issued Aquatic Licence. Each boat shall be represented by either the ‘Owner’ or ‘Person in Charge’, as indicated on the entry form.

Opening Day - Brunch for Members - Saturday 6th September, 2014 - the theme is "Your Favourite Sport"

Open to all MHYC Members, join us for brunch (it's on us!) on Saturday 6th September, from 9am, to cheer in the opening of the 2014/15 season.  Continue the celebrations with the MHYC Sail Past on Saturday 6th September, 2014. Brunch from 9am, kids activities (& sports) from 10.30am, Sail Past at 12noon, Commodore's Front Up Cup Race starts at 12.30pm, Race Presentation and prizes for best dressed boat and crew from approx 4.45pm.

Theme for this Year - Dress your boat and crew in your favourite sport!

Wallabies Vs. Springboks On the Big Screen - Saturday 6th September, 2014, from 7.30pm

Why not stay on after the Commodore's Front Up Cup on Saturday and watch the next game of the Wallabies playing against the Springboks.  The bistro will be open from 6pm.  For bookings, call reception on 9969 1244. The following weekend will see the Wallabies Vs. Argentina from 8pm.

Congratulations to Liesl Tesch & Dan Fitzgibbons - 2014 World Champions

Australia’s Paralympic champions Daniel Fitzgibbon and Liesl Tesch claimed their first world title in the SKUD 18 class as the 2014 IFDS Combined Sailing World Championships at Nova Scotia in Halifax, Canada, came to a close on Sunday (24 August). Read more...

MHYC Yachts at Hamilton Island Race Week

The 2014 Hamilton Island Race week, which finished last Saturday, was one of the best so far, with good winds and keen competition in the sunshine and blue waters of the Whitsundays, in contrast to the cold and wet weather back in Sydney.

The Middle Harbour Yacht Club boats competing fared as follows:

In IRC Div 2 Craig Neil and Andrew Pearson came 6th in Elena Nova: in Cruising Div 1 the luxurious Swan 90 Spirit is not a MHYC boat but was skippered to 6th place out of 33 entrants by our own Andrew Hurt. Robert Pizzie’s Tonic came 17th in that division. Read more...

Upcoming YNSW Courses at MHYC

Powerboat Handling Course - MHYC 25th and 26th September
Powerboat Handling is an essential skill and prerequisite for Dinghy and Powerboat Instructor Qualifications.
This 2 day course is highly practical and develops the skills needed to provide safe training. It can also be used to obtain an RMS Powerboat Licence

Dinghy Instructor Course - MHYC 27th and 28th September

This is the final step in gaining the Dinghy Instructor Qualification. This 2 day course includes an evening session (on the 27th) with online prior learning prerequisites.
Candidates will need to be at least 16 years of age and have completed both Apply First Aid and Powerboat Handling.
Assistant Instructors that are ready for more responsibility, or someone else ready to conduct dinghy training then this is the best course for them!
Cost - $400
