Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's E-Newsletter.  Reminder to all Members & guests that the popular MHYC Twilight Member Night will be held after the Twilight race tomorrow night, 30th January. Sydney Harbour Regatta - 8th & 9th March 2014 -

Middle Harbour Yacht Club (MHYC) is encouraging prospective competitors in Sydney’s largest regatta, the Sydney Harbour Regatta, to enter now and save; the ‘early bird’ entry fee offer expires at midnight this Friday evening.

To be held on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 March, the 9th edition of the event attracted some big names in the first handful of entries. Darren ‘Twirler’ Jones entered the defending Melges 32 champion, 2 Unlimited, on behalf of owner and mate, Greg Prescott from Tasmania.

Wild Oats Thursday Twilights - 30th January, 2014

The Wild Oats Thursday Twilight Series continues - Race 16 tomorrow Thursday 30th January, 2014. There will be 23 pointscore races in the Series with the final race being on 27th March 2014.

Twilight Member Night - tomorrow night!

The successful Twilight Member nights held in November/December last year were so popular that we have brought them back.  The next one will be tomorrow night, Thursday 30th January.  To cover the costs of the food, there will be a $5 charge per head for a roast beef roll and salad.  Bring your crew up to the Harbourview Bar after the race and enjoy wine tastings, prizes and great food.

A & B Arm Only Available for Drop & Go - Twilights

Please note that A & B Arm will only be available for picking up and dropping off guests and crew for the Twilights tomorrow night. Berthing available on both arms, please check with the Dockmaster prior.

Adams 10 Championships 2014 - An 'Executive Decision' to cough up a small fortune to send his yacht by truck up the highway from Victoria to Gosford, NSW, proved a wise one for Adams 10 owner Grant Botiga.

Junior Sailing - Tackers 1 places available & Extra Tackers 2 class for Term 1

Due to a huge demand for the Tackers 2 class this term, we have opened a second class in the Sunday afternoon slot (2pm till 4.30pm).
This has opened up spots in both the 11.30am – 2.00pm class and the 2.00pm – 4.30pm class. If you wish to enrol your tacker 2 in this class use the online system to enrol them in tackers 3.

For those still thinking about a sport for the kids for this term, we have places available for Tackers 1 - a great way to learn to sail for beginners. What better way to have fun on a Sunday morning on the beautiful waters of Middle Harbour!

Where did all the kids come from?

Club regulars, particularly Wednesday and Thursday Twilight racers, may be wondering why the club seems over-run at these times with lots of kids in blue uniforms. They are the Redlands school kids who are lucky enough to do sailing as their school sport! Thanks to the wonderful work of the Junior Sailing staff and in particular the Tackers programme, the Redlands Junior School Wednesday afternoon session sells out in minutes. 50 youngsters from Year 3 to Year 6 undertake the Tackers Learn-to-Sail program and they certainly have a ball doing so.

Australian Cadet Class Championships Report

A team of 6 boats travelled to Williamstown, Victoria on Boxing Day, to represent NSW at the Australian Championships for the International Cadet Class. Accompanied by families and even grandparents, it was a very cohesive and happy team. Five boats had first-year skippers (three at their first nationals) and three of the crews were also at their first nationals.

MHYC's next sailing clinic for MHYC Members and guests will be on Tactics & Strategies, presented by guest speaker, Craig Ferris. A great clinic for those competing in the up coming Sydney Harbour Regatta to hone their skills!

MHYC Divisional Dinner - No.1 Division - Friday 31st January, 2014

MHYC's first Divisional Dinner will be held on Friday 31st January, 2014, for Division 1 yachts in the Quarterdeck Room.  Get your crew together for a fun night with rum tasting from Inner Circle Rum, 2 course meal and following dinner, fortifieds and mystery tastings.  Cost $35 per head. Nigel Holman Race 4 Rum 2014

After the success of last years inaugural Nigel Holman Race 4 Rum in 2013, MYC will again be holding the event on the 2nd of March as a fundraiser for the Canteen charity for youth with cancer. The race will be an inshore 7 island course. Sailor Jerry's Rum will be supplying the rum prizes and many other sponsors have come on board with prizes from the draw.

Classic Yacht Regatta 2014
