Nine Dragons Wins on IRC & PHS at RSYS
Report by Bob Cox -
The Nine Dragons crew decided to race at Royal Sydney's last race of the Winter Series, with the objective of taking on "Hell Razor".
Ian MacDiarmid's Hell Razor is one of the top thirty-six footers on Sydney Harbour, and a good battle was expected, with Nine Dragons, "the under dog". A fortunate start enabled Nine Dragons to round the first mark ahead of the fleet, with Hell Razor third or fourth. Tony Coleman's J13.3 made a little ground on the very tight spinnaker run and eventually passed Nine Dragons on the long reach to the finish line.
Tony took line honours by 13 seconds from Nine Dragons, however, a win on IRC by 2 minutes and on PHS, 3 mintes, made Nine Dragon's day! The crew reported disappointment that the race was very short and as a result, Hell Razor had no real opportunity to catch up. So we can't crow too much. A rooster today, a feather duster tomorrow!
Join Mariner Boating Holidays in January 2011 on the 5th Phuket to Langkawi Yacht Rally
The islands in the Andaman Sea between Thailand and Malaysia offer the most pure tropical island experiences. With warm crystal clear water, first class diving and snorkelling, stunning palm tree lined beaches, spectacular limestone formations and ancient rain forests - all flavoured with famous Thai and Malay cuisine and hospitality. Asia has the added benefit of being accessible and much less expensive than other international sailing destinations. You may like to mix your sailing holiday with some time spent on land - maybe a stopover shopping in Bangkok, a stay in a world class beach resort in Southern Thailand or an elephant safari in Northern Thailand.
You have the option of organising your own crew for a mono-hull or a catamaran, or join our share-boat where you can enjoy the rally with a group of like minded people.
Mariner Boating Holidays would also like to extend a special offer to members of Middle Harbour Yacht Club. Book and deposit before 30th September 2010 and receive a $150 per person discount.
