Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's E-Newsletter.  

The 2013 Sydney Harbour Regatta is on this weekend 9 -10 March, 2013.  It will be a great weekend of sailing, Helly Hansen fashion parade, prizes, food, music from 747 on Saturday and the Wolverines on Sunday - a guaranteed weekend of fun!  Come down to the Club to join in on all the activity or view the races on Sydney Harbour on 10 course areas from viewing points around Sydney.
MHYC and SHR Helly Hansen merchandise will also be on sale on both days of the weekend.

Wolverines make music - great prizes on offer at Sydney Harbour Regatta

As the entry numbers for Middle Harbour Yacht Club’s 2013 Sydney Harbour Regatta go beyond 200, Wolverines drummer and singer, John Clinton, has announced he will race in the regatta ahead of entertaining yachties and families and friends on the final day after racing from 4.30pm.

Notice to Members - Functions Update for March

Members are advised that over the next two weeks there will be a number of events that will alter the usual Member services.

Sydney Harbour Regatta – Saturday 9th March and Sunday 10th March
Sandbar will be open from 8am until late – Bistro open from 12noon until late both days.
Beach BBQ – 4pm – 8pm both days on the rigging deck
LIVE entertainment Saturday with "747" & Sunday with the "Wolverines" from 4.30pm until late.

Property Industry Foundation Regatta
Friday 15th March 2013
Due to the size of this event there will be no Member services available after 4pm.

Redlands Barefoot Ball
Saturday 16 March 2013
There will be no Member services available after 6pm.

March Cup & Women's Race Day Report

Last Saturday 2nd March, 2013, the March Cup & Women's Race Day was held at MHYC.  With varying weather conditions, a small fleet ventured out into the 22kts wind, rain, fog and the occasional break of sun through the heavy cloud cover.  It was a brave group!  One particular boat that decided to conquer the weather was the all female crew of Pindimara.

Summer Pointscore Series

The Summer Pointscore Series will continue from Saturday 16th March, 2013, with Race 6 for the Open Division and  Inshore divisions.

Thursday Twilight Race Reports - Race 20

Race 20 was a wild one but not too wet!. Wind from the South at 25 knots gusting to 30 knots and 1.5m waves at the heads. The crews were kept busy and good training for the Sydney Harbour Regatta weekend on 9 & 10 March.

Race 21: Thursday Twilight Series, 14th March, 2013.

Please note that there will be no Twilight racing tomorrow Thursday 7th March due to the Sydney Harbour Regatta being run on 9th & 10 March.

Beach BBQ & Harbourview Bar & Bistro Open for Twilights

The delicious menu offerings for the Twilight Series will again consist of either casual meals from the BBQ ranging in price from $7 to $12, from nachos, vegetable nachos, or Beef burger, to a Twilight bistro menu in the Harbourview Bar & Bistro.  Bookings are essential for the Bistro. Please call 9969 1244 to book a table.

Wednesday Series 3

Series 3 for the 2012-13 season begins today, Wednesday 6th March, 2013.  Entries are open for Series 3 online - click here. Please be reminded that the handicaps are count up and also handicap start is from 1330 hours.  Back by popular demand - Raffle tickets will be selling post race for a Meat Tray.

420/470 NSW State Championships - A Master Class of Sailing

MHYC held the Zhik 420/470 State championships over the weekend with 24 entries over the two classes. With the weather not being to knd on the first day with up to 25knots and 10ft seas swell coming through the sound, Ro Phil Yeomans decided to stay inside Middle Harbour. This created short, sharp, intense racing for the fleets with positions changing constantly over all the legs.

Sailing Clinic - An Evening with Bruce Arms - Wednesday 27 March 2013, 7.30pm

Single handed around Australia World Record holder, Bruce Arms, will talk and show footage on his world record and also his win in the 2012 Three Peaks Race in Tasmania plus the Solo Tasman yact race which Bruce has won the last two times.Bruce was laos Jessica Watson's Project/Voyage manager for her amazing voyage around the world.  Come along to hear Bruce's stories.

2013 Annual Presentation Cocktail Party - Saturday 27th April 2013

The 2013 Annual Presentation Cocktail Party will be held at MHYC on Saturday 27th April, 2013, from 6.00pm. Awards will be presented for all Club divisions in the Annual & Twilight series for the 2012/13 sailing season. An arrival drink and canapés will be served. Live entertainment with DJ will follow the presentation.  Keep the date for your diary.  Online bookings will be available next week.

Manly Yacht Club's Women's Regatta - Sunday 24th March

Get your crews and boats together and enter the 2013 MYC Helly Hansen Women's Challenge on Sunday 24th March. Great sailing and prizes and a trophy for the winner of the largest one design fleet.
