The new racing rules will be presented tonight, at our monthly sailing clinic, with guest speakers Gary Manuel & Carl Crafoord - see details below. 

Sailing Clinic - New Racing Rules - Tonight at 7.30pm!

Gary Manuel, ISAF international Umpire, and Quantum’s Carl Crafoord will present an evening seminar on the new Racing Rules.  Gary has been an umpire and judge at State, National and International events including World Championships, as well as being a commercial skipper on Sydney Harbour.  He also participates in yacht races and has competed in both inshore and offshore events.
Carl has a wealth of experience including 26 Sydney to Hobarts (winning 4 as navigator), 9 Admirals Cups, 9 Kenwood Cups, as well as logging over 150,000 offshore miles. All welcome to attend. 7.30pm start. Wednesday 27th February, 2013.

Online Entries Now Closed Friday for 2013 Sydney Harbour Regatta 9th & 10th March

With online entries now closed, the Sydney Harbour Regatta is shaping up to be another fantastic weekend with over 200 boats now confirmed.  For those still wishing to enter, please contact the Sailing office on 9969 1244.

Urgent Accommodation Required - do you have a spare room?

MHYC is seeking accommodation for one male and one couple from Victoria, who are part of our Race Management team for the Sydney Harbour Regatta, for the weekend of 8th, 9th and 10th March, 2013 (3 nights in total).  If you are able to accommodate these team members, please contact Roger in the sailing offfice on 9969 1244 or at roger@mhyc.com.au.

Wolverines Live at MHYC on Sunday 10th March, 2013

Award-winning country band, The Wolverines, will be performing live on the beach at the Sydney Harbour Regatta on Sunday 10th March, 2013, from 4.30pm.  All are welcome to enjoy the post racing celebrations as well as the official prize giving.  Also not be be missed, is entry to win a 3 night Hamilton Island getaway for 2 adults, generously donated by Robert Oatley Vineyards, which will be drawn on the day - you must be present to claim the prize!  Entry forms will be available at MHYC during the Sydney Harbour Regatta weekend.

March Cup & Women's Race Day

This Saturday 2nd March, 2013, the March Cup & Women's Race Day will be held with a Clubhouse start at 1230 hours.

Summer Pointscore Series

The Summer Pointscore Series will continue from Saturday 16th March, 2013, with Race 6 for the Open Division and  Inshore divisions.

Thursday Twilight Race Reports - Race 19

Well it is getting exciting folks! Only 3 races to go in the MHYC 2012/2013 Thursday Twilights. Leading boats in each division with 4 races dropped (can drop 5) are Div 1 is 'Toy Box 2', Div 2 is 'Wailea', Div 3 is 'Mortgage Choice Rumba', Div 4 is 'Sol', Div 5 is 'In the Red' and Div 6 is 'Single Malt'. It is going to be close.

Please note that there will be no Twilight racing on Thursday 7th March due to the Sydney Harbour Regatta being run on 9th & 10 March.

Last Tuesday Twilight of the Season!

Last night saw the final race of the Tuesday Twilight series for 2012/ 2013. A wonderful 18 – 22 knot Nor Easter got the fleet around the marks in record time – and back to the Club nice and early to enjoy the sausage sizzle & a few quenching beers.

Beach BBQ & Harbourview Bar & Bistro Open for Twilights

The delicious menu offerings for the Twilight Series will again consist of either casual meals from the BBQ ranging in price from $7 to $12, from Italian sausage & spaghetti, Napolitano spaghetti, or Beef burger, to a Twilight bistro menu in the Harbourview Bar & Bistro.  Bookings are essential for the Bistro. Please call 9969 1244 to book a table.

Wednesday Series 2

Series 2 for the 2012-13 season, final race today, Race 12, Wednesday 27th February, 2013.  Entries are open for Series 3 online - click here. Please be reminded that the handicaps are count up and also handicap start is from 1330 hours.  Back by popular demand - Raffle tickets will be selling post race for a Meat Tray.

MHYC Juniors Dominate NSW Optimist Teams Racing

Last weekend saw MHYC send over 3 teams to the NSW Optimist Teams Racing Championships held at Northbridge Sailing Club (NSC). The 2 day event began with an instructional and practice day with English teams racing expert and MHYC Coach, Chris Kamean. The day was an eye opener to just how many techniques and strategies there are in teams racing, however the overriding lesson from the day was to sail fast and keep it simple to win.

Congratulations Transfusion - Aberdeen Asset Management Australian Farr 40 Champion!

Quick responses, crew handling and keeping the mast pointing towards the sky in the gusty NNE winds on a wild and woolly Sydney Harbour were key ingredients on the final day of the John Calvert-Jones Trophy to decide the Australian Farr 40 champion for the 2012-13 season.

After nine races, Guido Belgiorno-Nettis’ Transfusion has been declared the winner of the John Calvert-Jones Trophy and named the Aberdeen Asset Management Australian Farr 40 Champion.

MHYC Member Keith Le Compte and Nicky Bethwaite celebrate surprise wedding!

The Sydney sailing community has seen them around together for quite a while but even close friends and family members were surprised when Nicky Bethwaite and Keith Le Compte married last week.

Nigel Holman Race 4 Rum - Sunday 3rd March 2013

In commemoration of Nigel Holman, MYC will be hosting a short offshore and inshore passage race on Sunday 3rd of March. The prizes for this event come from the rum collection that Nigel collected over his illustrious sailing campaigns top up by donations from Bundaberg Rum themselves.

Manly Yacht Club's Women's Regatta - Sunday 24th March

Get your crews and boats together and enter the 2013 MYC Helly Hansen Women's Challenge on Sunday 24th March. Great sailing and prizes and a trophyfor the winner of the largest one design fleet.
