Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship (SSORC) - this weekend
24th - 25th November, 2012

The 35th Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship,widely regarded as a tune-up for the serious yachts and crews campaigning for the annual dash to Hobart, will be held this weekend.  The main attraction and the new 'Jewel in the Crown' will be the widely popular race track up to Lion Island with a return finish inside Sydney Harbour. Adding to the spectacle will be the annual 7 Islands Race for inshore yachts on Saturday 24th November. Tie all this up with the post race entertainment and beach party on the shores of MHYC, a whole weekend of sailing splendor awaits you, your crew and family - come and join us!

Online entries will close at midnight on Thursday 22nd November for the 7 Islands Race to be held this Saturday 24th November, 2012, in conjunction with the Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship. Click here to enter.

Group Training at MHYC - tomorrow morning at 6.15am

Plans are on the way to update the verandas outside the harbour View Room and Cala Luna. As you are aware this is well and truly overdue. We have not been able to do this previously as we simply have not had the funds. Now with the help of Cala Luna we can get started.

Thursday Twilights Report - Race 6

Was a great '2 beer around the course' evening for a sail last night. 

ENE at 15 knots in a small swell. The fleet across the 6 divisions has grown to 46 boats and should exceed 50 boats by Christmas!

While the morning weather was far from encouraging,  the  2^nd race of the Social Tuesday fleet got away with a light SE breeze under  a sunny sky – once again sailing Course 2  out to North Head  – across to South Head and home via Edwards.

Beach BBQ & Harbourview Bar & Bistro Open for Twilights

The delicious menu offerings for the Twilight Series will again consist of either casual meals from the BBQ ranging in price from $7 to $12, from Penne Pasta with Meat Ragu, Lamb balls with tabouli, Chargrilled chicken burger or Vegetarian pattie, to a Twilight bistro menu in the Harbourview Bar & Bistro.  Bookings are essential for the Bistro. Please call 9969 1244 to book a table.

Special Twilight Membership for New Members

MHYC is offering a special Twilight Membership for new members wishing to join the Club for the Twilight season.  The cost is $274.00 (inc YA fee) and expires 31st August 2013.  Conditions apply. Skippers, get your crew for the Twilight season.

Sailing Clinic - Racing Tactics & Strategy - tonight

Wednesday 21st November, 2012, at 7.30pm

Quantum’s Carl Crafoord & Brent Fowler will present an evening seminar on Racing Tactics & Strategy, to help you kick off your summer season of sailing.
Carl has a wealth of experience including 26 Sydney to Hobarts (winning 4 as navigator), 9 Admirals Cups, 9 Kenwood Cups, as well as logging over 150,000 offshore miles. Brent has been a key member of many teams wining both Australian and Asian IRC Regattas. He turned heads when at 23 years old he helmed the first Australian Team at the Med Cup in the Soto 40 Series, with the average age onboard at 24.

Inspiring Talk from Malcolm Page

Many thanks to Malcolm Page for taking the time to join us at the Club to give an inspiring insight into his 2012 Olympic campaign in London, last Wednesday evening.  All those that attended enjoyed hearing about the 'on water' tactics with the other competing nations, the comraderie amongst the team, and the importance of communication, to name just a few of Malcolm's words of wisdom!  There were plenty of questions as well. Thanks Mal.
