MHYC Finalist in 2012 Australian Yachting Awards

Middle Harbour Yacht Club has been announced as a finalist in the 2012 Australian Yachting Awards, under the Sport Promotion Award for the staging and promotion of the 2012 Access Worlds.  This is a huge achievement and very exciting for the whole Club.  Well done to Julie Hodder and her team.

Twilight Online Entries for 2012-13 are now open.  Click here to enter online.

Paper entries will not be available. Online entry demonstrations will be conducted on Wednesday afternoons at reception.  Please contact the Sailing Office for more information.  

Thursday Twilights - Skippers Briefing & Season Opening Drinks

The 2012 Thursday Twilight Series kicks off on Thursday 4th October with a Skippers Briefing and Season Opening Drinks from 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start. The Bistro will be open with a Twilight menu available.  Food orders will be taken before the Skippers Briefing and will be served at the completion of the briefing. All welcome. The first race will be on Thursday 11th October, 2012, with a count up start.

Special Twilight Membership for New Members

MHYC will be offering a special Twilight Membership for new members wishing to join the Club for the Twilight season.  The cost will be $274.00 (inc YA fee) and expires 31st August 2013.  Conditions apply. Get your crew ready for the season.

New Short Series Division shares another great day on the Harbour.

Last Saturday saw the new Short Series Division enjoy their 2nd race of the series –this time sailing the windward /leeward course set for all divisions and starting as usual at the back of the fleet.

Sail 10 Pass

The new Sail 10 Pass is a pre-paid payment facility for Owner’s and Skipper’s who race on a casual basis in a Series held at Middle Harbour Yacht Club. The Sail 10 Pass enables Owners and Skippers to pay for a block of 10 casual entries and is flexible enough to use across all MHYC series. The pre-paid ten races must be used before the end of the season (31 August 2013) after which they will expire. To purchase the Sailing 10 Pass, please contact the Sailing Office. Price: $405.00 (pre-paid).

New for 2012 - Casual 10 Card for Tender Service

MHYC has introduced a new Casual 10 Card for those Members requiring Tender Service on a casual basis. The cost is $250 for 10 return trips. One trip consists of a dropoff/pickup completed on the same day. Click here for the Tender Service form.

Junior Cadets

MHYC welcomes Shane Hughes, current Australian Sailing Team coach, and Samantha Bailey, current National Championship for the International Cadets, for a training weekend this Saturday and Sunday with the NSW International Cadet team.  The sailors will be working with Locky and Shane on skills for the upcoming Nationals and World Championships in Tasmania.  For more information on the International Cadets, please contact Locky at juniorsailing@mhyc.com.au.

I Did It!

Here is the proof – me on the top of Mt Kilimanjaro with Brett and Ali

Its very high 5,890m or for those from the old school 19,430ft.

Its very hard to breathe up there particularly when you have to climb 1,000m on the last day up a 45 degree slope. Its seriously cold at night -10 C or less.

It was seriously hard particularly the last bit of the assent, and going down hammers your legs.

Due to global warming there is not always snow on top, and most of the glaciers are receding fast!

State Judge Course at MHYC - November 3rd & 4th, 2012

A 2-day course of the Yachting Australia National Officiating Program State/National Judge qualification, will be held at Middle Harbour Yacht Club on behalf of Yachting NSW.

The aim of this course is to educate participants on topics such as Protests, Rules and Race Documents at a State and National level including on water judging. Cost $120 per person.

Power Boat Course with Flying Fish

Flying Fish will be holding a Power Boat course this Sunday 7th October, 2012, from 10am - 5pm. The course will allow individuals to gain their certificate to take to NSW Maritime and obtain their boat licence. The course cost is $175 per person.
