Dave O'Connor Optimist Coach at MHYC
Dave O'Connor, from North Sails, will be hosting an Optimist training day for all MHYC Optimist Sailors this Sunday 3 June at MHYC. This will be a great session for our Juniors before they head to the East Coast Championships over the June long weekend and Queensland Youth Week in July. Dave has a wealth of experience that comes from working with North Sails and parents are welcome to sit in on the briefings to learn more about Optimist sailing. Sunday Training with Dave O’Connor (9.00am to 12.30pm). Rigged for 9.30 start. Weekly Focus: Race Tactics & Starts. Racing with Dave O'Connor 1pm to 4.30pm.
Spit Championships Held at MHYC
The Spit Championships for 420’s and Optimists were held at MHYC last Sunday 27 May. The fleet featured 24 Optimists which included 7 green fleet sailors and 9 420’s including the Elite Training Squads (ETS).

Sailing Clinic Report - Wind & Weather
Some 60 people, Members and non members alike, braved last Thursday¹s blustery wind and weather to attend Ben Austin¹s very professional and engaging presentation on the subject. Ben was a Youth Laser World Champion in 2000, with Nathan Outeridge a 49er World Champion and Olympian, has sailed just about everything and is now a NSWIS 29er coach: he knows sailing and he knows how to read the weather.

First Aid Course at MHYC
MHYC will be holding an "Apply First Aid" Course (old "Senior First Aid") at the Club on Friday 22nd June, 2012, at 9am. This is open to all Members and staff, holding a maximum of 20 people, at a cost of $99 per person. For first timers there is a pre-course online learning and multiple choice exam, for re-certifiers just the one day. The course will be relevant to sailing and the water. The Certificates are nationally recognised, include CPR, are valid for 3 years and are workcover approved.

Help Jaimie to Compete in Sri Lanka
In January this year Jaime Swavley competed in the AIODA Australian Championship. Jaime finished as the first Australian Girl and 12th Australian overall. This result ensured her selection to represent Australia at the New Zealand Nationals held in New Plymouth this April and the Optimist Asian Championship held in Trincomalee, SRI LANKA this June where over 120 competitors from over 24 nations throughout Asia will compete. There is significant cost in representing Australia at these events and so Jaime is seeking sponsorship to help cover the costs. Read more...
