It was another great day for the Platinum Members Luncheon where members who have been with us for more than 20 years get together once again. The club was just buzzing with people catching up, some not since last year’s luncheon, some even longer.
The Harbour View room hosted some 70 guests who were treated to a 2 course plated meal, accompanied with a cheese and season fruit station with chocolates.
Proceedings were handled by MC Club Captain Bryan Moore, with a welcome address by Club Chair, Neil Drabsch who drew on the rich heritage of the clubs 87 years, and the wonderful legacy that each member has contributed to the club’s success. MHYC boasts near 200 members that have achieved over 20 years of membership status.
This year we heard tall stories and yarns from our very own members about past sailing experiences. Some funny, some not so politically correct, and many fond memories of the club, family and its members. The montage of photo’s from years gone by were very amusing even if it was hard to identify the youthful faces, and bodies!
And of course, those that reached another decade with the club received their new badges recognising their ongoing membership. Second longest member and former Commodore Rob Reynolds presented the badges to the new recipients this year.

John Sturrock – 3rd Longest MHYC member of 61 years who still owns the boat Eudoria, built in 1948 and one of the first boats on our register.
New Decade members (present on the day) – Mat Hayes and Paul Cayzer (50 years), Jenni Brennan, Dave Nelson (40 years), Tony Levett, Rachel Lee, Karen Ewel, Mark Harding (30 years), Bob Cox and Alister Copley (20 years) and Ian Box (33) and Chris Lee (32)
Members for over 50 years (present on the day) – Bruce Ritchie, Robert Reynolds, John Sturrock, Michael McEvoy, Alex Comino, Peter Young, Paul Wotherspoon, Lloyd Bennett, Peter Sorensen, Robert Ogilvie, Bryan Smith, Mat Hayes and Paul Cayzer
