Martin Hill and Crew Win Etchells World Championship!

Over the weekend Martin Hill and crew, Sean O'Rourke, Julian Plante and Mat Belcher, led Lisa Rose to victory at the Etchells World Championships.
MHYC wish the whole crew an enormous congratulations on what is an absolutely outstanding achievement.

"It is so fantastic to hear the words “World Champion” and to be honest it hasn’t sunk in yet", said Martin Hill former Commodore of the Middle Harbour Yacht Club.
"It really is something we did not expect. We did know that we had a good team, however, before the regatta our goal was to just keep working on building the chemistry that we had with our talented but relatively new combination, and to finish within the top ten in the 94-boat-fleet”.
“I had known Mat Belcher for over 10 years and as many know he has won a gold and silver in the 470, so when we had the opportunity to get him on board for the Worlds we knew it would be a good move. He is extremely talented as are Julian Plante and Sean O’Rourke my other crew, but even with all that talent it is a pretty tall order to arrive at a World Championship with a new combination against a fleet of rock stars and hope to win”.
"So we really exceeded even our own expectations, and a big part of that is that Mat makes ordinary, extraordinary. He is fantastic. Having Will Ryan on Racer C in second place just goes to show the calibre of the Australian Sailing Team who are also based out of the Middle Harbour Yacht Club."
“Lisa Rose had an amazing support team of family and friends, including AST Coach, Michael Blackburn and support from Michael Coxon and David Chapman who has sailed with us in the past. We also had two fantastic training partners in Tom King, and David Turton and technical and media support from Greg Torpy and Nic Douglass”.
“On the last day I could hear my family and support crew cheering at each mark rounding from my Palm Beach which was proudly flying the MHYC burgee, and it was just wonderful to share the win with my wife Lisa, the kids and my grandchildren.”
