This is the third race in the series - results of previous races are here. Good luck to all competitors and thanks to our generous sponsor MySail. See https://mysail.team/ where it is free to sign up and use as a crew management system.

Final Twilight Race of Pre-Christmas Series  - Thursday 14 December

Our last race in this series and a great chance to catch up with your crew and competitors before a couple of weeks off for the silly season!  Next race will be Thursday 4 January with the new Post-Christmas Series.

Christmas Kid's Disco - Friday 15 December

This is always a popular event and ticket are limited to 100 children -  all tickets are $15 per child or $10 for a group of ten or more.  Call Reception on 9969 1244 to hold your tickets and table booking. Bistro meals will be available for orders as usual and tables will be allocated on the beach or up on the balcony.

Sail Sydney - 16 and 17 December

MHYC will be working with Drummoyne Sailing Club to run the Junior & Youth Classes course area, most likely in the vicinity of Double Bay for the Sail Sydney Regatta.  Classes will include Optimist, Sabot, Open Bic, International Cadet & Manly Junior.  The resources we are providing are Hugh George (Start Boat), Red RHIB (Pin Boat) & Noel Ramsden RHIB (Safety Boat) and we are seeking volunteers to assist.

The event is expected to attract more than 300 local, national and international competitors across 23 classes.

It is anticipated that racing will commence at 11am each day.  Volunteers would need to be at MHYC by 9am.  Two race sessions are planned both days, so teams may not be back at the club until about 6pm.

All volunteers also need to register with Australian Sailing here.

The event website is www.sailsydney.org

Clipper Round the World Race Talk - Wednesday 20 December

The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other.

Come and hear MHYC Club member and race crew of Galan, Samantha Gallagher, speak about her experiences from 6pm!

With no previous sailing experience necessary, it’s a record breaking 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht.

The brainchild of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail solo non-stop around the world, the event is now on its eleventh edition.

Divided into eight legs and 13 to 16 individual races, you can choose to complete the full circumnavigation or select individual legs. It is the only race in the world where the organisers supply a fleet of twelve identical racing yachts, each with a fully qualified skipper to safely guide the crew.

Normally the domain of seasoned pros, this supreme challenge is taken on by ordinary, everyday people. Having completed a rigorous training course, participants are suited and booted in the latest extreme protection gear to commence the race of their lives - an unparalleled challenge where taxi drivers rub shoulders with chief executives, vicars mix with housewives, students work alongside bankers, and engineers team up with rugby players.

The sea does not distinguish between Olympians or novices. There is nowhere to hide - if Mother Nature throws down the gauntlet, you must be ready to face the same challenges as the pro racer. Navigate the Doldrums en route to South America, endure epic Southern Ocean storms, experience South African sunsets, face the mountainous seas of the North Pacific - and bond with an international crew creating lifelong memories before returning victorious.

Applications are now open for the 2019-20 edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Seize the moment, unleash the adventure.

MHYC Annual Christmas Dinner - Thursday 21 December

Please book online for our annual Christmas Dinner here.

Youth Sailing Update

Another term of Youth Sailing has come and gone and  activity on the beach has been busy on nearly all days with a variety of school groups, racers, Tackers and Learn to Sail kids enjoying everything MHYC has to offer.

A bumper program of activity including the introduction of our unique Little Tackers Program for 5-7 years olds kept the future of sailing strong. 15 Little Tackers had fun on the beach during a 7 week – 30 minute introductory session with parent involvement included. During the program, the “Little Tackers” had the ability to try sailing off the beach and learn to the basics of sailing at our wonderful club. The final week involved a fun race in the marina with parents and kids together racing for ultimate glory.

Summer Holidays means Holiday Camps and, with a sold out program for the 18th – 21st December, an additional 2 day fun camp has been added next Monday and Tuesday. Post-Christmas we will see weekly Holiday Camps, however these are filling up fast so don’t delay as these are a great way for kids to get more “time on water” which is the key to their development in sailing. Go to http://www.mhyc.com.au/sailing/learn-to-sail/learn-to-sail-juniors

The racing program has also been occurring every week with the lead up to the busy Summer Regatta period starting with Sail Sydney next week. MHYC is supporting a course on December 16 & 17 and we have a couple of spots left for volunteering to assist with race management and also get to see your kids sail from the water!. A strong core of Optimists , 420s and Cadet,  joined some weeks by the 29ers, enjoyed the variety of racing each Sunday afternoon through the term. With the new yardstick rule we even had a Flying Ant join in the fun. While racing at MHYC takes a break over the School Holiday period, many of the sailors are heading north and south to a variety of regattas so keep an eye out for the MHYC Centreboard sailors representing our club.

With over 300 kids actively sailing at MHYC weekly during Terms 4 and 1, our awesome instructors and coaches and admin staff are available to assist with getting your children into sailing. The Youth Sailing Committee is keen to develop the racing program and support parents and kids in being more active in sailing. We will be holding a training program for parents in early February with a few weeks of training on Mark Laying, Safety Boat Handling and Committee Boat Roles to assist out volunteers in becoming more hands on in the racing. We have also introduced an app for communication and updates on racing at MHYC Centreboard called Team Snap – Let the sailing office know if you want to  get updates via the app. Also keep an eye out for Adventure Club which we are looking to revive in 2018 for kids not keen on racing but still wanting to sail.

Have a wonderful, safe and merry Christmas…….
