Last Saturday 2nd September saw a fabulous Opening Day for the 2017/18 season with plenty of spring sunshine.
After a champagne brunch and thank you to volunteers in the Sand Bar the club's new tender the "Tony Bates" was launched from the Rigging Deck by Wendy Bates in honour of her late husband and former Chairman of MHYC.
The morning continued with the annual Sail Past led by 'Hugh George' with eighteen yachts decorated with their dress flags and crews in their best 'rock and roll' outfits. Racing then commenced for the season in the Commodore's Front Up Cup won by Wailea.
New sponsors, Smooth FM sent along their "Angels" who had some fun giveaways during the afternoon whilst we all enjoyed the entertaining sounds of Di Solomon. Our membership renewal incentive prize was also drawn - congratulations to the winner of the Hamilton Island holiday, senior member John Needham.

MC 38 regatta - This weekend marks the final part 4 of the MC38's Winter Series and the forecast for Saturday is south-westerly 15-20 knots tending southerly in the middle of the day then easing south-east to south-westerly, Sunday looking light & variable, racing commences 1100hrs daily out of Middle Harbour Yacht Club.
Lisa Blair talk - MHYC is proud to host Lisa as she speaks about her amazing trip sailing solo and unassisted around Antartica on Wednesday 13 September. The bar and Harbourside Bistro will be open for an early dinner and Lisa's presentation will commence at 6.30pm. Tickets are $20 at the door and all funds raised assist Lisa directly. Kid's Disco - these are really popular Friday night events where your kids can come along and dance with Bop till You Drop while you enjoy dinner and a few drinks with friends. Parking reminder - MHYC members are no longer permitted to park anywhere beyond our club into the area leased by Middle Harbour Amateur Sailing Club. This area is also currently being used as a construction site by Sydney Water as they renovate the old pumping station. Please respect this request, or you may risk your vehicle being towed away.

MHYC Adams 10 fleet update
The Waitangi Cup is an annual challenge between teams of Adams 10 sailors from Middle Harbour Yacht Club and teams from the combined clubs of Port Phillip Bay, Victoria.This year the event occurs on the 23rd - 24th September at Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron in St Kilda. The format is teams racing. The current Waitangi Cup holder, MHYC is sending four crews to take on four crews from Melbourne over three races. The team with the lowest combined score over the three races is the winner. The teams heading south this year to defend their trophy are:
- Powderhulk, led by Patrick Delaney
- L2, led by John Roxburgh
- No Friends, led by Geoff Charters
- A composite crew, led by Lindsay Rose

Any funds held on your current membership card will automatically roll onto your new card.

A reminder that all yachts racing in MHYC events are required to have successfully completed a safety audit for the category of races they are entering and the new Australian Sailing Special Regulations have come in to force as of July 1.
MHYC has a capable team of accredited auditors who are now making themselves available to conduct further audits.

Opti Regatta on September 10
Round 2 of the NSW Optimist Dinghy Association’s Traveller’s Trophy for 2017-18 will be held at Middle Harbour Yacht Club on Sunday 10th September with racing commencing at 11.30am.
80-100 young Opti sailors are expected to compete in the Open, Intermediate and Green fleets across two race courses, so a very busy day is anticipated at the club.
Volunteers are needed on the water and onshore to help support the day’s activities. For more information - click here

The Sailing Handbook, which includes the 2017-2018 Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for the principal series, is available to be collected from Reception.
To assist members planning for the coming season, electronic versions of the sailing program are available for download in both PDF and Excel. The spreadsheet can be filtered to obtain a list of dates for specific events or classes etc. Click here
