MHYC E News 9th August, 2017

Welcome to MIDDLE HARBOUR YACHT CLUB's E-Newsletter

Last week, we announced the news about the Club's new tender boat!  Still yet to be named, she is sitting on a trailer on the hardstand as we put the finishing touches to our new little beauty!  When we say "new", she is actually an old vessel which has been through a total makeover -- couple of botox injections to smooth out a few wrinkles, a nip and tuck to improve the topside and add a couple of beauty spots (ie samson post), not to mention an almost-new Yanmar diesel engine.

Take the time to have a look at her on the hardstand - everyone who has seen it so far is very excited!  This will be our Club tender for the next 30 years - so we need a few more donations from Club members to help the Marina Committee reach the $40,000 needed to pay for it.  Amount raised so far is already over $26,000 and any donation towards our goal is very much appreciated.  Just let our General Manager Karen or myself know if you would like to make a donation!

Thank you - "Captain Jack" Stening, Chairman of Marina Committee

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS:  If you haven't renewed your membership by now (ie before the 31st July), you have missed out on going in the draw to win the 3 night holiday on Hamilton Island but ..... if you renew your membership between now and the 31st August, you will still can win a second chance prize of a case of beer and 2 bottles of wine!

Winners for both draws will be announced at the Club's Opening Day and Commodore's "Front Up" Cup presentation on Saturday 2nd September 2017.

Club House Committee - working bee

Our very active new members of the Membership & House Committee, are keen to see us start making some improvements and around thye Club House.

We need to organise a painting bee for the Function Rooms, Harbourview Balcony and Breezeway.  Whilst the view from the Harbourview Balcony is awesome, it would be nice to dress it up a bit, and we had an idea to wrap thick rope around the vertical posts to add to the nautical theme and outlook.

If you have any spare time and consider yourself to be a reasonable painter, and if you have any old rope (doesn't have to be in good condition and probably the more used the better), please get in touch with Karen in the office.  All offers of help and assistance are always much appreciated.

Make sure you save the date - Saturday 2nd September!  We always have a fun theme that you need to use to decorate your boat or dress up your crew.  This year we are going with "Favourite Music or Bands"!  Think along the lines of the Beach Boys (a nice easy one with everyone in Hawaiian shirts) or Bay City Rollers and everyone in kilts - just to give you a couple of ideas.  We have just confirmed a new sponsorship with radio station smoothfm so a music theme is very appropriate.  Great prizes to be won!

Starting off with a champagne brunch, followed by a colourful and exciting boat parade, the Commodore's "Front Up" Cup race, and then back to the Clubhouse for entertainment, volunteer and prize presentations!
