Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's E-Newsletter

The Club's first Clubhouse Sports Lunch was held last Friday with guest speakers, Phil Waugh and George Gregan, talking with MC, Fox Sports Commentator, Sean Maloney.  Many thanks to MHYC members, Rob Clarke and Patrick Delany, Australian Rugby Union and Fox Sports in supporting this lunch and enabling it to be such a success, and to Sean, Phil and George for giving up their time to entertain us with stories of the Sydney to Hobart race and rugby memories past and present.  Thank you to all those who purchased raffle tickets on the day - we raised over $1000 for the Youth Sailing equipment at MHYC!

We have kept the waitlist for the Mosman Council Parking permits open as we require another 8 people to take up the offer to receive a 25% discount of $260 (normally $316).  Please contact the office asap if you wish to be placed on this waitlist.  

Please be reminded to renew your membership before this Sunday 31st July, 2016, to go in the draw for a fabulous holiday on Hamilton Island for 2 people, to be drawn at Opening Day on 3rd September, 2016!

A reminder to all members that the member’s carparking spaces are NOT TO BE USED FOR LONG TERM PARKING!!  It is subject to availability and only for day or short term term use.

Yacht Sales Australia Wednesday Series 4 - Race 9 - 27th July, 2016

Race 9 of Series 4 for the 2015-16 season, will be held today Wednesday 27th July, 2016.  Please be reminded that the handicaps are count up starting from 1300 hours.

MHYC Winter Series Update

The final race of the MHYC Winter Series 2016 was held last Saturday.  Congratulations to the following:-

Leading Edge Series - Race 1 Saturday 6th July, 2016

The Leading Edge Series begins on Saturday 6th August, 2016, with Race 1 of 4 races for the Series.  Clubhouse count up start from 12.30pm noon.

Annual Skippers Briefing - Thursday 11th August, 2016 

The Annual Skippers Briefing will be held on Thursday 11th August, 2016 at 7pm. This is a mandatory meeting for all skippers (or designated crew) to be updated about the upcoming racing schedule for the 2016/17 season and other RMS requirements for shipping & harbour operations.

There will be a range of Helly Hansen's new season sailing gear and clothing to view as well as a wine tasting with Robert Oatley Vineyards.

 


Youth Sailing - Online Bookings Open - Term 3 has begun!!

Term 3 bookings are open online for Tackers and Learn to Sail - click here for more information.  Term 3 has begun and will continue each Sunday through to 18th September, 2016. Green/silver and Open Opti fleet, Cadets and 420 Squad are now being held every weekend, so book in now to avoid disappointment!


Update on Fundraising for Youth Sailing

The current status of the Frank Likely Trust donations – with balance from previous donations through ASF + Rugby Lunch raffle + art sales = $3,685
We need $1,105 to enable purchase of two (2) more Optimists which will bring our total fleet up to 22 boats!   Thank you to all those who have donated to this worthy cause.


Melges 20 Come & Try Sailing Day

The second Come & Try a Melges 20 day is happening next Sunday 31 July. We’ll be starting around 9.30am and finishing up by 11.30am as the breeze forecast is for 10 kts fading off to nearly nothing by midday.
Please advise Nicky Bethwaite if you’d like to come for a sail, as spaces are limited.


Sandbar Cafe - open 7 days a week - Hot soup now available

The Sandbar Cafe is open 7 days a week from 8am. Come down to the Club & enjoy our Winter treats - samosas, frittatas, pies, hot dogs! Also delicious soft centred muffins - try them warmed up! Hot soup is available daily perfect for these chilly days - pumpkin & coconut, creamy tomato & basil, Nepalese lentil, cauliflower & parmesan!


Harbourview Bar & Bistro -  Winter Menu Available

The Harbourview Bar & Bistro has a new Winter menu - come down to the Club and try it out!
Harbourview Bar & Bistro is open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and Friday and Saturday for dinner. Thursday nights will reopen with the start of the 2016/17 season.

Spit to the Zoo 2016 - Saturday 13th August, 2016 - Register today!

It's on again - the 2016 Sydney City Renault Harbour Series - Spit to the Zoo 2016.  Long course 16kms, short course 8kms.  Open to ocean racing skis, SLSC Spec skis, outrigger canoes, SUP's, Sea kayaks and plastics.   Race starts at 9am with registration from 7.30am. $35 for PNSW members and $45 for non members.

The Long Lunch - hosted by the Cruising Division - Sunday 21st August, 2016, 12 noon

The 40th Anniversary of the Cruising Division will be celebrated at the upcoming Long Lunch, hosted by the Cruising Division on Sunday 21st August, 2016, at 12 noon.  $55 MHYC Members, $60 non members - includes 3 course lunch in the Quarterdeck Room.

Sunday Sounds with Rebecca Henry - Sunday 31st July, 2016, 2pm to 5pm

Come down to the Club on Sunday 31st July, 2016, for MHYC's monthly Sunday Sounds with Rebecca Henry from 2pm to 5pm.  Rebecca is a singer songwriter whose style has flavours of rootsy pop, soul and alternative country. Rebecca has supported some of Australian’s top artists.  Enjoy some live music on a sunny Sunday afternoon at MHYC.

Entries are open for the 2017 Pittwater to Southport 

Entry is open for the first-ever Club Marine Pittwater to Southport Yacht Race, the lead-in offshore race of the New Year and one of the major events to fall within The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club’s sesquicentenary year (150yrs).
