MHYC E News 18th May 2016

Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club's E-Newsletter.

We saw a very busy weekend at MHYC with the Club hosting the MC 38 Autumn Regatta as well as the Adams 10 Waitangi Challenge on Sunday. It was great to see the buzz at the Club over the whole weekend. Click here for MC 38 Autumn regatta wrap up.

Race 12 of Series 3 for the 2015-16 season, being held today Wednesday 18th May, 2016. Please be reminded that the handicaps are count up starting from 1300 hours.

MHYC Winter Series - Entries Now Open - Race 3 & 4 Saturday 21st May, 2016

The MHYC Winter Series has begun with Race 3 and 4 (Sprints), and Short Series Race 2 and 3 (Sprints), this Saturday 21st May, 2016.  The  Winter Series is held most Saturdays during Winter, including a 'short' series and sprint races.

No racing is held over the June Long Weekend. First Warning Signal at 1155hrs, with a Post Race Presentation. Morning Sandbar BBQ will greet skippers and crew prior to racing and the Harbourview Bistro will be serving Post Race weekly Specials for Members and Guests to enjoy.

Waitangi Interstate Challenge MHYC v Victoria 2016 – Adams 10’s

This year it was MHYC’s turn to host this incredible and unique event which is teams racing in a one class design and the Adams 10 class has been used since its inception in 2000.
The “Waitangi Challenge” is between MHYC and the Victorian Clubs with Adams 10’s. Four crews from each state contest the event. The host of the challenge provides the eight boats required and to ensure even racing, boats are drawn out of a hat and no skipper is permitted to sail their own boat. Thanks to the owners of boats provided L2; No Friends; Contentious; Kick & Chase; Rock Solid; Another Dilemma and Powderhulk.

YA Club Judge Course - Saturday 28th May, 2016

A half day course for Club level accreditation as a Club Judge, run by Yachting Australia,  is being held at MHYC on Saturday 28th May, 2016, at 9am to 1.30pm.  This is aimed at educating people who wish to become involved with the officiating aspect within the sport of Sailing. Judges play an important role within sailing ensuring on water adherence with particular rules and also in their capacity as members of protest committees to settle disputes off the water.

Get Checked Weekend & YA Special Regulations Audits - 18th & 19th June

MHYC will be holding its' annual Get Checked Weekend for Equipment Audits on the weekend of 18th & 19th June, 2016, which allows Club Members the perfect opportunity to have their boats audited prior to the new sailing season commencing. Members are encouraged, each year, to make their own pre-arrangements for services required, as they may be limited during the Get Checked Weekend. MHYC Member, David Lavings, of CMS Consulting, will be providing fire extinguisher servicing and replacement on Saturday. Bookings for an equipment audit are to be arranged directly through the MHYC Sailing Office or by emailing Roger Wragby at roger@mhyc.com.au.

Sandbar Cafe - open 7 days a week 

The Sandbar Cafe is open 7 days a week from 8am.  Come down to the Club & enjoy our Winter treats - samosas, frittatas, pies, hot dogs!  Also delicious soft centred muffins - try them warmed up!  As from 1st May, hot soup will be available daily.

Harbourview Bar & Bistro - Come down and try the menu and weekly specials

The Harbourview Bar & Bistro has a new menu starting next week - stay tuned!
Harbourview Bar & Bistro is open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and Friday and Saturday for dinner.  Thursday night will be open with a minimum booking of 10 or more. Call the Club on 9969 1244.

MHYC Vivid Cruise - 2nd June, 2016, 6pm - 9pm - Note Change of Date

It's on again - MHYC's Vivid Cruise!  Join us on Thursday 2nd June, 2016, on MV Sydney as we cruise around Sydney Harbour to view the Vivid Festival.  Pick up from Mosman Wharf at 5.45pm for the cruise beginning at 6pm and returning at 9pm. Ladies Lunch with Guest Speaker - Lexi Landsman - Thursday 16th June, 2016

MHYC's next Ladies Luncheon will be held on Thursday 16th June, 2016, at 12 noon, with guest speaker, author, Lexi Landsman. Lexi Landsman is an Australian television producer and journalist. She has worked on a range of award-winning documentary series for the Seven Network that have aired in Australia and internationally. She has degrees in Media Arts and Production, Drama Teaching and a Masters in Journalism. She will be speaking about her new and first book, The Ties That Bind - On opposite sides of the world, two lives are changed forever. One by the smallest bruise. The other by a devastating bushfire. And both by a shocking secret.
Major Prize of a 3 night Cruise to be drawn at the final lunch in October 2016 sponsored by Travel View | Cruise View and Captain Cook Cruises Fiji.

With quite a few sporting matches being shown live on Foxsports in June, bring your friends along and watch the games on the big screen in the Harbourview Bar & Bistro.  For Saturdays, book a table early and join us for dinner before the game.

"Sail trim and the latest sail design technology – getting the best out of your sails" Seminar - Thursday 23rd June, 2016 at 6.30pm

Paul Eldrid, Director of OneSails Australia, will be speaking on sail trim and the latest design technology, at MHYC on Thursday 23rd June at 6.30pm.  Paul is an accomplished sailor with numerous victories in Australia and internationally including State, National & World Champion. Paul has designed, built sails and coached a string of National and World Champions. His sails have powered an impressive list of inshore and offshore yachts to victory worldwide.

Come down to the Club and learn about how you should be trimming your sails and getting the best out of them!
